From day one, we have wanted this little restaurant to be a space where anyone can feel comfortable & welcomed. Classic French cuisine is the root of this ethos - consistent, familiar and even nostalgic flavours from the tried & true feel good classics, yet slightly elevated with a touch of whimsy. Whether you are up for a curated culinary experience with our 4 & 7 Course tasting menus (Fri & Sat evenings), or prefer to choose your own adventure with our 3-course Table D’hote menu (Wed & Thurs evenings), or are in search of an upscale lunch à la carte menu (Thur - Sat); we have you covered! Our menus are composed entirely to showcase the best local products in Lanark County & the Ottawa Valley and are tailored monthly to best celebrate the tastes of the season. What’s more is that we tie it all together with the best small town, friendly, warm and courteous service around. Just like at a good friend’s house; we look forward to welcoming you to our kitchen! A great experience! Delicious, well presented foods, and friendly staff. Really enjoyed chef, Ian Carswell, describing the foods. Highly recommend!

Who would have thought that sleepy Carleton Place could be home to such an outstanding dining experience! Accommodating ( we were late), gracious, fun, knowledgeable AND absolutely outstanding food with beautiful wine pairings. We will certainly return and recommend it to friends. We attended the early seating on Friday night: not recommended if you are coming from east end Ottawa: the Queensway was brutal. I have beautiful photos but dont want to spoil the fun of discovery!

Had a terrific lunch here- the scott-ish pie and crepe were delicious. Desert chocolate terrine was beautiful. We will come back.

Amazing! Bring back the ploughman’s platter!!! The Santa Clause Parade was an added entertainment bonus.

What a treat this restaurant was, and definitely worth the drive to Carleton Place. The food was stunningly beautiful with flavour to match. It was fun, it was unique, the Chef presents the dishes and I enjoyed the interface with the creator. Highly recommend for a relaxing, slow food experience. Finally, the use of local businesses for supply and ingredients makes it feel like a community effort and I really appreciated it.

This was our first time to the Black Tartan restaurant. We had a wonderful experience. They took my husband's severe nut and seafood allergies seriously. The food and the service is amazing! We really appreciated the chef explaining what we were eating. Well worth it! Thank you! Suzanne

Cannot recommend this place enough. Ian and his talented crew always provide an outstanding experience. The food is top notch! Whether it be a business dinner or a night out for 2 we have always had a great time!
