Historic Appeal: The Black Horse has been a pub since at least 1761, housed in a Grade II listed building dating back to the 16th century.
Traditional Charm: As a typical traditional English village pub, it retains much of its historic character.

Really good venue. Plenty of choice as far as drinks were concerned. Pretty busy when we went, mainly due to a table of 15 eating alongside us! Roaring fires and excellent food. The service was good too. Would recommend booking. The car park was full of locals (great to see) and their 4x4's, so give yourself plenty of time as you'll probably have to park on the road - which is very dark in the winter months!

Cannot fault it. From lovely, warm and friendly service to amazing food. Highly recommend it.

Excellent food from Specials board and Main menu. Service was unobtrusive but efficient. Busy Saturday evening with the bar full of locals. It's good to see a village pub being supported in this way.

Never been to The Black Horse and went on a recommendation from a friend. It was fab! The place, the food, the staff, all fantastic! So glad I have found the gem!

Unfortunately after being recommended to the Black Horse we were thoroughly disappointed. The fish and chips we ordered were not up to a good standard ie. the fish was plentiful and tasty but was let down by its accompaniments. The chips were stale and probably a day or two old and cooked too many times, giving them a stale taste. The mushy peas and tartare sauce were also deemed inedible by my friend. The deserts were just standard. We were also overcharged for the mains and one of the deserts … the fish & chips were priced at £18 and we were charged £19 and the lemon loaf was priced at £7 and we were charged £8. Overall not good pub grub and we won’t be recommending. Last but not least the host was very friendly and chatty so that was a plus.

Great food, excellent service. We were made to feel very welcome. The waitresses did everything they could to make our meal enjoyable. Will go back.

The Black Horse in Standlake is one of the best pubs in our area. Good food, good service, great staff. What more would you need for a Sunday lunch in a lovely old building.
