The Black Horse Standlake

The Black Horse pub in Standlake near Witney is a welcoming pub, packed full of history and has had a lovely renovation opening up the restaurant area and adding a cosy atrium. Fantastic classically trained chefs and a beautiful menu to suit all sourced locally. So wether its lunch with friends, a celebration meal or casual drinks there really is something for everyone.

Please note, Opentable bookings are only accepted for food reservations only.

The Black Horse is a typical traditional English village pub and has been a pub since at least 1761 – the Grade II listed building is 16th century.

We actively cater for all dietary requirements, especially gluten-free, vegetarian and vegan. We also stock gluten-free beers and vegan wines.

Staying on caravan direct door so nice easy walk….had delightful waitress most obliging and sooooo cheerful….food nice and hot and nicely presented….all in all we found the experience most enjoyable

Stayed in the campsite next door popped in with the family for evening dinner staff were extremely friendly they couldn’t do enough for us and food was really nice and well priced and all in all had lovely evening

Our whole experience was absolutely incredible. We are visiting from Australia and came in with our baby and the staff were more than accomodating for our pram. We sat in the garden out the back of the pub on a beautiful day and it was abundantly clear that the pub was very child and pet friendly as well as being a place where locals and visitors alike all gather. We ordered the Chorizo bravas starter and the Sunday roast and both were excellent. The yorkshires were great and the trimmings were all cooked just right. Special shout out to the staff who made our experience even better by being so helpful and really lovely. We can’t wait to return in the future next time we are in England. If you are in the area I highly recommend paying The Black Horse a visit!

Staying on the holiday site next door. Short walk for a pub with a nice ambiance, friendly staff and good value food. Can recommend.

We've been to The Black Horse a few times, but Sunday lunch yesterday was a little disappointing. The shoulder of lamb was chewy and fatty and the meal was swimming in watery gravy. The quarter roast chicken, however, was delicious, but was also swimming in watery gravy. We were disappointed with the quantity of vegetables provided on the plate - one parsnip, one carrot and one florette of cauliflower cheese and a handful of French beans. As always, the Yorkshire pudding was impressive. Not sure if there was a different chef on yesterday but the meal was not as good as we've had previously.

An outstanding country pub! Came back after an outstanding meal back in December. The food and the service are second to none with such a friendly team of staff. The waitresses were extremely attentive and welcoming. We had such a lovely evening and would like to thank Luke,Ella,Jodie, Laura for looking after us and the amazing kitchen team who cooked our amazing meal. Cannot wait to be back !! Highly recommend!!

Visited for Sunday lunch -- a proper village pub with cozy bar and tables in the back. I enjoyed my lamb roast with all the trimmings. Great Yorkshire pudding! My wife enjoyed the burger and they were happy to substitute cauliflower cheese for the bun and chips, which she appreciated. There was a small error which they fixed right away -- great to see good service.
