Fabulous meal, Tarte Tatin was delicious.. would definitely return and recommend this place

The food was outstanding, by any standard: excellent ingredients, creatively prepared and very appetising. Excellent range of wines. Dining room was quite noisy.

We eaten here 3 times in three years and all have been great but this was the best yet. Well presented perfectly cooked food with some very innovative dishes.

Room and service excellent. Food was somewhat disappointing as I had high expectations. Main course sea bass had tiny crab accompaniment and tiny courgette buttons, seemed a bit twee and unsatisfying. Tarte tatin was not caramelised. Partner had a cauliflower main which was inedible in parts as a little undercooked. Breakfast average, poached eggs were the most overdone I've ever been served. Toast was some awful sourdough which neither of us liked (and neither did fellow diners), it came pre-buttered, bizarre!

We were so impressed with the Black Bull. The food was excellent. The service impeccable. I am a celiac and the staff could not do more to help. They adapted all the meals and were very informed about the ingredients that went into the food. The Moroccan lamb was divine . The food was very reasonable and we have already booked tonight for another memorable experience. They offer a pie night which we went to last night. This included a house wine or beer which was exceptional value for money. Well done the Black Bull , a little gem in Sedbergh

We have been walking the Dales Way (80 miles) in stages during the past few months and this was stage 6. Each stage involved a pub meal at the end of the walk. All 6 pubs/restaurants have been good, or very good, but The Black Bull was the best. The food is really well presented and delicious, in very tasteful surroundings. Service was excellent and very friendly. We opted for the bar menu and enjoyed freshly made sandwiches, soup and fries. I would defintely recommend this pub and look forward to my next visit - we are going back in 3 weeks after the jext stage of our Dales Way walk. Sedbergh is a delightful with lots of independant shops, and surrounded by stunning scenery.

Lovely food in fabulous surroundings - a lot of thought has gone into creating a warm and welcoming space that reflects the heritage of the place as a country Inn.

Standards have fallen since our last visits. We have dined here several times in the near past. The requirement to choose side dishes, only one of which is included, indicates a serious level of penny pinching. This is further illustrated that extra gravy was also charged as an extra. I have never come across this before. The meal itself was satisfactory but no better than that which would be found in a standard pub. Also the desert of rhubarb within a curd content did even offer a hint of rhubarb. ‘Subtle’ was the description offered by the server. All in all prices are at the very top end for a Sunday lunch but the quality is much less than that. The restaurant needs a serious re-think about it’s menu and value for money.
