The Black Bull Inn, Moffat is an independently owned, award winning Scottish hostelry, established 1568. The oldest hostelry in the area, the Inn is well known for its links to Robert Burns, Scotland’s National Poet who visited during his heyday. The Black Bull is also connected to another notable character from history – the controversial Earl (Bonnie) of Dundee, who commandeered the Black Bull as HQ in the 17th century and oversaw the persecution of Scottish Presbyterians from within its walls.
With olde world ambience and atmosphere oozing out of its walls, the Black Bull is a welcoming, warm and interesting place to visit, with touches of traditional Scotland interwoven with contemporary twists and is everything an ancient Scottish hostelry should be. With great food, excellent wines, superb cask ales and beautifully styled rooms the inn never fails to charm both international and UK patrons and their pooches too.

Superb, from our lovely warm welcome on entering the bar area. The staff were all super doggie friendly and made a fuss of Ross (Our big golden retriever). The staff ensured that Ross’s needs were seen to straight away, a nice bowl of cool water!. Drinks were served and our food order taken. Sunday early evening so the Carvery was the dish of the day. Our carvery plates were brought to our table (piping hot) The carvery food was plentiful and the choice of meats was great. The Pork was cooked to perfection, moist and soft, and juicy. With lovely crunchy crackling. Beautiful. Turkey breast was succulent and with the savoury stuffing balls was just perfect. A cut of roast beef finished of the trio of roast meats and did not disappoint. The chef has produced some mammoth Yorkshire Puddings that topped off the meal. A veritable feast (Just what a Sunday carvery should be) Ross indulged in a Doggie dinned of a beef stew, which when presented was piping hot, full of best minced beef, carrots and peas. Ross decided that he needed to allow it to cool until he could fully enjoy it. He cleared his dish when he did. Three of us fully fed and satisfied but it didn’t stop there, we had to go for the pudding! A Biscoff Cheesecake wit a few Raspberries, Ice cream and fresh cream for me and a Sticky Toffee Pudding for my wife. Both sweets were gorgeous, (not needed but fully enjoyed) we waddled our was back to the Green Frog campsite full to capacity and then some! We will definitely be coming back to the Best Doggie pub EVER, oh and its great for the humans as well! Thanks a lot.

Great meal at the Black Bull, menu choice was excellent, as was the food, with particular care given to dietary requirements. Excellent service and all round experience.

As soon as we arrived the staff made us very welcome, even though they were very busy they always were very sociable. The food was lovely and plenty of it. We could recommend this to anyone.

Very good meal and staff are very tentative. Although it does get very busy so best to book a table
