The Black Bull Inn, Moffat is an independently owned, award winning Scottish hostelry, established 1568. The oldest hostelry in the area, the Inn is well known for its links to Robert Burns, Scotland’s National Poet who visited during his heyday. The Black Bull is also connected to another notable character from history – the controversial Earl (Bonnie) of Dundee, who commandeered the Black Bull as HQ in the 17th century and oversaw the persecution of Scottish Presbyterians from within its walls.
With olde world ambience and atmosphere oozing out of its walls, the Black Bull is a welcoming, warm and interesting place to visit, with touches of traditional Scotland interwoven with contemporary twists and is everything an ancient Scottish hostelry should be. With great food, excellent wines, superb cask ales and beautifully styled rooms the inn never fails to charm both international and UK patrons and their pooches too.

Had a lovely meal here for lunch. Beautiful pub with friendly and polite staff. Very welcoming.

A wonderful place. Our first visit. It was so refreshing for the emphasis to be on good food and a really pleasant atmosphere. No loud music drowning out our conversation. Excellent gin selection! Thank you.

The venue and staff are all lovely. Service was excellent. It was a Sunday Buffet and if I'm being honest it was a little disappointing. The roast potatoes could have been crispet and the Yorkshire pudding looked fantastic but was too chewy to cut or eat. So nothing wrong but could have been improved and we certainly ate most of our lunch.

Very dog friendly, to friendly. We have a dog and we are pleased to find these eating houses, but, customers who let there dogs sit on the furniture!! Will eventually spoil it for everyone.

Good carvery with wide range of vegetables. We had pork with crackling and turkey. Our waiting staff didn't return to ask us if we wanted anything else but did finally return to give us a 15 minute warning to vacate the table. A hurried sticky toffee pudding filled the gap. The lighting was dimmer than helpful for my elderly companion but the music was very much to her liking and of her era. Every table in the bar had between one and three dogs a couple of which were quite vocal when other dogs walked past.
