In 1960, R. J. “Bob” Lee opened The Big Texan Steak Ranch in Amarillo Texas on Route 66, the “Mother Road”. It’s distinctive architecture soon became recognized across the Mother Road as a good stopping place for great steaks grilled over an open flame. The Big Texan is famous for the FREE 72oz steak challenge, which includes eating a salad, baked potato, shrimp cocktail and 72 ounces of beef! Stop in and have a one of a kind experience with large, juicy steaks, cowboys and cowgirls, and take a dive into the Old Wild West!

The Big Texan has more to offer than just big steaks! Stay with us either at our RV Park, Cabins, Wagons, Airstream, and AIRBNBs on property.

This place is a good time! Such a cute fun place. The food was very good! My steak was cooked perfectly and was delicious! The portions are very good size.

The steak was the best tasting we have ever had! We got a lot of food for the price. We also got souvenir cups and the kids got a cowboy hat with their meals. Well worth the price.

We were really looking forward to trying the big Texan. We’ve been driving past it for years on our way to Colorado. We were finally able to make it in before they closed. We ordered steaks potatoes, sweet potatoes and mushrooms. The steaks tasted like lighter fluid from the grill. The mushrooms were so salty we couldn’t even eat them really the only thing that was good was the mac & cheese in the bread. I don’t recommend this place.

The Mushrooms were wonderful, steaks were good. Loved the cheese potatoes. Loved the atmosphere!

Super fun place for all. Good food, decent prices and ambience makes it all. The best seating is the balcony and the servers were super great. Thank you

We had a reservation and upon arriving at the restaurant, we had to wait over 40 minutes as we watched folks walk in and get seated immediately! We inquired several times and also spoke to a manager who was extremely rude and mean. She told me that I could leave if I didn’t like it! I have NEVER been treated like this in any restaurant all across the USA!! I felt like she singled us out and treated us so horribly!! I would avoid this restaurant. They have gone down hill and food quality was mediocre for the price!!
