In 1960, R. J. “Bob” Lee opened The Big Texan Steak Ranch in Amarillo Texas on Route 66, the “Mother Road”. It’s distinctive architecture soon became recognized across the Mother Road as a good stopping place for great steaks grilled over an open flame. The Big Texan is famous for the FREE 72oz steak challenge, which includes eating a salad, baked potato, shrimp cocktail and 72 ounces of beef! Stop in and have a one of a kind experience with large, juicy steaks, cowboys and cowgirls, and take a dive into the Old Wild West!

The Big Texan has more to offer than just big steaks! Stay with us either at our RV Park, Cabins, Wagons, Airstream, and AIRBNBs on property.

What a GREAT place! Steaks were very good (tender) and the overall ambience of the restaurant and bar area was TEXAS welcoming don’t miss this place if you are heading thru Amarillo. Must stop!

This was our first visit and we tried the ribs. Thought they were excellent. Portions were too large wish they sold half size plate. We brought home more food than we ate. Loved all the photo shoot opportunities!

Have always wanted to try The Big Texan so while heading from Dallas area to Albuquerque, I made reservations. It was terrific, but I highly recommend making a reservation. We liked it so much that we are eating there again on our return trip.

Everybody recommended us The Big Texan Stake Ranch because it is the most famous and delicious restaurant in Amarillo. It is true. The food, the staff, and atmosphere are all good. I agree this restaurant is awesome, famous, and you should eat many kinds of stakes there. I think you had better book on “Open Table Apps” if you don’t want to waste of your time.

Great experience dining here. Had to move the reservation and that was a seamless process. The restaurant itself is an attraction, very entertaining and the decor was great. Our only problem was that because we got there a little late, we weren’t able to fully explore the gift shop and some of the other entertainment. Totally worth going to!
