Le restaurant Berghoff est un point de repère à Chicago, qui sert une cuisine inspirée de la culture allemande depuis 1898. The ambiance was excellent! Beautiful oak paneling! Servers were excellent and helpful. The food was unbelievable! We had two flights of beer and tried eight different type. All were expertly brewed and delicious! I can’t find anything to complain about! Well done!

Good was ok. Good portion size. Familiar with German food…seemed to lack any flavor. Just plain food. Band was on a break the entire time we were there, expecting a party atmosphere. Thought the waiters/staff would be in some sort of German attire. Decent experience,

After walking downtown, we popped in for a taste of October fest in Sept. The server was very good, and the liver wurst mouse was excellent.

The pretzel was good, and the herring appetizer was delicious. The root beer was outstanding! Our entrees were decent, but the veggies were nearly raw on the plate (grilled carrots weren’t very edible) Portion size is big, so we could barely finish. Our waiter seemed a bit disaffected. He wasn’t a good listener, as he repeated the wrong order back to us for our apps, and completely forgot the side order of red cabbage. Good thing though, we couldn’t have eaten it. There is no music played there. Would be a nice addition to the ambiance to have some German music playing. Seemed more like a German-themed TGI Fridays than a German restaurant.

The Berghoff is an iconic Chicago restaurant. My grandfather dined there--and I'm 69 years old! The outdoor sign evokes fond memories of my dining experiences throughout the years, although i am not a regular. Previous visits were excellent. However this past visit was only "good" at best. The food was just not as good as previous visits. I had the saurbraten and my companion had the weiner snitzle. Since we are in Octoberfest, I was expecting excellence, and both entrees were just, "good". We shared a side of red cabbage, which was a very small portion (c'mon, it's cabbage!) My favorite: the steak salad, is no longer on the menu, either. The waiter was using a hand-held electronic device to take our orders--which took an inordinate amount of time. He didn't seem like he was familiar with the device. This device was also used to pay our bill. I am not a fan. Our martinis were ok--nothing special. The beer was good. The dining room was decorated for Octoberfest--but not nearly as festive as the Christmas decorations that I've seen in the past.
