My family and I ate there for lunch and sampled a variety of items from the pretzel to the chicken schnitzel. We washed it down with some root beer. We thought it was delicious for the price and it felt very Chicago-ey. Admission of bias, my family and I are originally from Missouri and have German roots, so we might be biased.

Our server was busy but on top of everything. The portions aren’t huge which is nice if you plan on having a couple apps, beer and a meal.

We went for an early dinner. Good, friendly service. Ordered the Wiener schnitzel and goulash, both delicious! The creamed spinach and potatoes were a little salty. Ordered the German chocolate cake, I was disappointed as it tasted as if it came out of a box, dry and somewhat stale. The apple strudel, however, was fresh and flaky, very tasty. Berghoff’s was one of my favorite restaurants when I worked in the Loop, so It may just have been an off night. I’ll have to give them another chance.

Wonderful restaurant that continues delight our family. We have been coming to the Berghoff for so many years, and this visit included our grandchildren who devoured linguini and meatballs with much enthusiasm! (and they usually eat very little!) So, big success🙂
