The restaurant is named after America’s most famous founding father, Benjamin Franklin. While he was pinnacle in America’s birth, he also became the first ambassador to France. While on trips to Paris, he would wine and dine with the best of them and when he returned, he would bring back the French culture, food and wine, and share it with our new nation. Dishes like Potato Lyonnaise and Crème Brulée were the first of his favorites he shared with America. The Benjamin reflects that bridged gap between the two countries’ cultures. The restaurant and bar is french-inspired, but uniquely American. It sits in Ridgefield's historic district in a 1875 house, but the interiors are modern, elegant and new. Chef prepares dishes like Mussels, Foie Gras, Shrimp Toast, Chicken, Halibut, Duck, and more.

Great anniversary dinner! Oysters were plump and fresh and lamb lollipops were cooked perfectly. Halibut and poke bowl were both delicious. We sat upstairs and it was quiet compared to the lively main floor dining room. Will definitely return.

This was our third visit to the The Benjamin and this time we took my husband's parents with us, who were visiting from out of town. Unfortunately, it was disappointing. While the food, when it finally came, was excellent, the service left a LOT to be desired. It took forever for our server to take our drink order, then forever for him to take our food order. The food took an abnormally long time to come out. And then, while we were still eating it, a young man came by and started grabbing plates to take them away. The food had been on the table for less than ten minutes at that point. It felt like they were trying to make up for the fact the food had taken so long to prepare by rushing us to finish it. To order more drinks, we had to flag down our server several times -- he would not come over unprompted. Tables in other, seemingly busier sections of the restaurant with other servers seemed to be getting a lot more attention. Perhaps our server was new and inexperienced.

Another beautiful and delicious dinner at our new favorite place. Outstanding service and ambience, the pork chop, shrimp cocktail and clams casino are terrific! The only minor suggestion is for the lack of flavor of the artichokes, perfectly crispy but lacked any flavor. Wine and the white linen cocktail were superb! Kudos to the entire team!

Wonderful experience from the moment we arrived. A very welcoming and engaging host offered us three different options for seating. We opted for the main dining room. It was delightful. The food was top notch and the cocktails perfectly made. Excellent service with not just a smile but a laugh. Unobtrusive - true professionals work here. The place is a delight from start to finish. This is no longer Bernard’s/Sarah’s Wine Bar- it’s way better under new ownership. Highly recommended. Bonus- a beautiful garden for drinks and dinner.

Modern renovations to a historical building and lovely staff but the food was underwhelming for the price. Likely won’t return.

The Benjamin is a good , albeit overpriced restaurant. A birthday dinner for two ($213 with 18% tip) where that was signalled in advance didn't come with any recognition of that fact at the outset, and only offered a very good exploding candle at the end after I had mentioned that it was my wife's birthday. OK, but why diminishing off the 5 stars The Benjamin would hope to get. In descending order of importance... 1. Cocktail and milles feuille too sweet for the $30+/large plate cost, while branzino and roasted chicken too salty. That said, we ate it all and would give it 3.5 stars if possible. 2. Somewhat cheap looking shaky small table and chairs. 3. Initial tap water request took about 20 minutes to get there, after the cocktail... 4. You need to pay for bread which honestly is kind of dumb given the prices you pay, and would have helped soak up some of the sauces. That's a real head scratcher. (though the people at the table next to us who had myriad complaints about this and that in their meal did mention overheard that at least the bread was only $6 now instead of the $12 it'd been before!) Honestly this is a bit of penny wise and pound foolish in my view... Barata and Beet salad, and octopus small plate both were very good Our server was attentive but it appeared that the staff overall wasn't that experienced, and probably would be good given the prices to work on the pronunciation of the French offerings (milles feuilles for example for the snobs who show up and expect a lot given the pricing, especially for those who remember the food at the Benjamin's predecessor, Bernard's.) To be fair, the Benjamin is good, could definitely be better for the big pricing. So 3.5 stars max out of 5.
