We visited twice in one weekend whilst staying in Bath. Staff were lovely & friendly. Food was great and arrived very promptly. We’re asked during our meal, on both occasions, if everything was ok with our meals. Our second visit was during the England match on Saturday evening, so quite busy & lively, but that didn’t affect service or friendly atmosphere. All in all, great experience.

We had roast beef. The vegetable were great but the beef was gristly and so amazingly tough we had great difficulty cutting it and some pieces were just impossible to get through. My husband bent his fork trying! At the end of the meal we had a side plate completely full of all the beef that was either gristly or too tough to cut small enough to eat. Pudding was lovely - profiteroles. So, a mixed meal. We mentioned the problem with the beef after the first course and they said we should have flagged up the problem earlier. We hadn't done that because we kept thinking it would get better if we tackled another piece, and also no serving staff came near our table until we had finished. We mentioned the beef again when it was time to pay the bill but at first we were told again that they couldn't do anything about it at that point. Then another member of staff came and told us that no one else had complained about the toughness of the meat and that we should have commented about it straight away to our serving staff when they came to ask us if everything was OK. We said that no one had asked...then they changed their position and said they would take the price of the puddings off the bill. It was all a little tricky and although we were grateful for the reduction in the bill, we were left with the impression that we were being nuisances. Such a shame because we have visited on many occasions and always had great food in the past. To sum up, we had a problem with the food, then we had another problem with being listened to. Both these problems led to a rather disappointing occasion.

I visited with my parents for a Sunday roast yesterday and we had a lovely meal. The food was delicious and there was a great vegan option which tasted really good. The veg was cooked really nicely, with plenty of flavour and delicious gravy. My parents who both eat meat had a huge Yorkshire pudding with their meals too. The service was brilliant as well

They were quite busy and it seemed understaffed so it was difficult to attract their attention to tell them we had booked a table. The young man told us he would have a look for our table then vanished only to reappear with food the vanish again - he did this a few times. We weren’t sure if he remembered us - a brief bit of eye contact or explanation saying sorry very busy but will be with you as soon as possible would have been good. Once we were seated all was ok & as the place emptied we got more attention.

Comfortable and spacious dining area, good choice of menu, excellent food and excellent service. Very friendly and caring staff.

Thought the food was first class - good selection, sensible price and well presented. Service was attentive.

Don’t know what’s happened to the Bear …. Despite the booking they weren’t keen to take us when we arrived … service was poor, starters arriving with mains , tasteless salad …. Just so disappointing … we won’t be going back

The sea bass fillet was not as good as sampled before. Probably a different chef and it was Sunday early evening. The raspberry tiramisu was too sweet, too much and not at all like a tiramisu I have had before.

Overall, we were very disappointed. The staff were pleasant and efficient but the food was poor. We were told on arrival that there were no pies or fish and chips, which severely limited our choice, especially as I can't eat cheese. We settled on a burger but it was honestly one of the worst we've ever had, and certainly not worth the £18 price tag. We didn't stay for dessert so I can't comment further. To be fair, it was a Monday night so maybe the main chef wasn't there. Sorry for a negative review but I have to be honest.

I am sorry to hear that your experience with us on Monday was a bad one, We had a very busy weekend and don't receive food deliveries until a Tuesday morning, however the Burger should have been excellent and I'm very disappointed to hear that it was not.
