The Bateman Arms was built c.1750 by Sir James Bateman (Lord Mayor Of London) as a building where his Estate workers would collect on pay day. Over the years it became a staging post for weary Drovers to refresh themselves as they walked livestock from West Wales to markets in Birmingham and London.

Today, Mike Pope and his team provide a warm welcome to both locals and the many business and leisure visitors who travel to the Marches throughout the year. Serving a rustic menu packed with pub classics and other items such as freshly baked pizzas, we have something for everyone to enjoy. With the rural splendour of Herefordshire, Shropshire, and Mid Wales on the doorstep, there's plenty to discover!

    The rooms are very good and service was very good and everything was smashing.

    Portions are generous, food is hot. Good menu selection and good specials board. Staff are polite and efficient. There is an automatic 10% service charge added to the bill, but they tell you. It is well worth it.

    The service by the young staff was great! They really made an effort to make you feel welcome. We had steak, asked for it well done but it was pink and bleeding so asked for it to be cooked a little more and it came out exactly the same and even after the 2nd time of asking it wasn’t any different so i had to leave it but still got charged full price even though the chef could not do a well done steak after 3 attempts. Serving staff were great though

    Excellent food with a wide choice of meals. Waitress was very pleasant and attentive.

    Brilliant pub, never had a bad meal here. Staff are so friendly and attentive. And the best thing is they are super dog friendly so your 4 legged friend is always welcome. Love the different nights they have on offer and the new menu items are brilliant
