We serve tasty and fresh sandwiches for those looking for a lighter lunch. We also offer a full and comprehensive menu for those wanting a more substantial meal. Our standard menu is accompanied by our Special Board, which details additional meals that we change throughout the month.

We pride ourselves on our menu as we make full use, where possible, of seasonal produce and look to source as much as possible from local Peak District and Derbyshire suppliers.

Much of our meat is supplied from Castlegate Stud Farm, in Stoney Middleton.

Beautiful spacious dining in an historic pub. Perfect service and great food. Interesting menu with classic dishes but also some more unusual plates to tempt! The lambs liver main was outstanding . Lovely outside as well with amazing views and lovely flowers

Ate at The Barrel as we were staying there. Served promptly and by friendly staff. Menu is pub fare but good quality, reasonable choice of dishes.

First time lunchtime diners; service was outstanding and the staff were friendly and engaging. Food was excellent; very tasty with (where appropriate) served hot; portion sizes good but not overbearing. Recommended - will be returning in the near future.

As always it's a warm welcome in one of the most stunning locations in the Peak District, the ambience, the friendly professional helpful staff and the food is always amazing, can't recommend this pub highly enough.

A lovely evening with friends, starting with the view from the car park! Friendly, efficient service, delicious food and wine. Possibly could do with a little more choice for vegetarians. As locals, this is where we often bring visitors for a great introduction to the Hope Valley and surrounding area.

The pub was busy but staff were attentive and helful. The food was delicious, nicely presented and good sized portions. The wait was not excessive. There was a good range of ales, and the pub has a view to die for with good outside seating overlooking a panoramic view of the valley. Be prepared for steep single track roads if driving up.

This was our third visit to this amazing pup. We hadn’t been before on a Sunday and even though they were extremely busy, which is understandable considering the location, but more importantly the food. We have had Sunday lunch at a myriad of pubs, but there is nothing in our opinion to beat what we had at the Barrel Inn. I had the lamb my partner had the beef, and the couple on the next table had the pork. We all agreed they were all the most tender meat any of us had ever tasted for a Sunday roast. Don’t overlook the rhubarb and apple crumble and hot Englishcustard
