The Barn is a “meat-centric hideaway” housed in a 19th century brick barn hidden away down an alley in the middle of Evanston. A homage to owner Amy Morton’s legendary father, restaurateur Arnie Morton (Morton’s Steakhouse), the menu boasts the finest quality ingredients available including table-side salad service and prime heritage Angus steaks. The intimate spot is accessible only through the alley and features soaring ceilings.

Featured in the Chicago Tribune and Evanston Now, The Barn is situated in a 19th century building, which was once a horse stable. Its entrance is accessible through the back alleyway for a unique experience. This eatery also provides seating for up to 80 guests and has high ceilings for an open feel.

We ordered sides since we don't eat red meat. They have lobster, scallops, shrimp, and veggies, so you're able to make an entree that way. The food was excellent.

Overall, we had a pleasant time. The food was good, though not particularly impressive. We ordered three types of steaks—the center-cut Manhattan, dry-aged bone-in ribeye, and 14oz New York strip. While the steaks were well-prepared, they felt similar to what you’d find at a typical fine-dining chain. Nothing really stood out. The rest of our order was enjoyable, but, again, there were no surprises, positive or negative. The kids felt a bit disappointed toward the end. When we arrived, the staff greeted us with a “Happy Birthday,” but that was the extent of the celebration. We noticed several tables received sparklers as a courtesy from the restaurant, but we didn’t receive anything. We were quite full and didn’t ask for it, but as a family of food enthusiasts, we value the personal touch in restaurant service, which we felt was lacking here.

Excellent food, great cocktails and wine list. Service was 5-stars Always a great steak, cooked to perfection and the side dishes are perfect. The Barn is a hidden gem and always my favorite place to entertain family, friends and business colleagues

First time here and will definitely be back. Four of us went for our 40ths and we all loved it! We had oysters, three types of steak including the waygu and a bunch of starters. Our waiter was fantastic and well knowledgeable about everything they served.

Everything was great! Until... our entrees were served. And then we never saw a person on the wait staff again. Thankfully we did not need anything, but we sat with empty dirty plates in front of us for 40+ minutes. We finally got the manager and asked him to clear the plates. He did. But no inquiry as to why we were asking him. Normally I would not review this, but I have had this experience at the barn on a few occasions in the past. Do they not have bus service staff? Service really vanishes once entrees served. So disappointing as the restaurant has so much potential.

I am from South Carolina and this was my second visit to The Barn while visiting the area. My wife and I were here for our 51st wedding anniversery in August and I was so impressed I had to go back before she leaves Chicago in December. The Food is simply outstanding. I had the filet that was perfectly cooked and so tender I believe I could have cut it with a fork. My wife had the ribeye and she said it was also cooked to perfection. In my 71 years, I don't think I have ever had a better steak. While I don't normally find mashed potatoes with a steak, the german marrow butterball potatoes are a perfect compliment to the steak. Finally, the chocolate velvet cake was rich, decadent and absolutely delicious. The staff and service are wonderful, very friendly, helpful and attentive without hovering. The Barn is not cheap eats but absolutley worth every dollar I spent - both times.
