The Back Street is a first floor restaurant in the heart of Dumfries town centre. With an ever-changing menu full of locally sourced ingredients, chef & owner William Wakefield along with his wife Suzanne and their team are sure to have something for you. Cannot fault anything about this place. They catered to absolutely everything and with what seemed effortless style. Service was prompt and friendly, food was superb, excellent wine and cocktail selection. I will definitely be back!

Good food, very well cooked and presented. Good service. Variety of reasonable wines and other drinks available. Prices reasonable for the quality on offer.

Great food. Lovely service.Gave us a nice gap between starter and main course. Draft lager would be a nice addition.

Steak night on a Wednesday is excellent value for money and the staff were great. The place needs some soft furnishings to make it a bit cosier.

My wife, daughter and myself went out to celebrate the end of first term. We have just moved to Scotland from Canada and this was our first nice meal out together. We were not disappointed, the staff was friendly and accommodating. The ambience was lovely. The food (which is the reason you go to a restaurant) was delicious. We started with bread and olives, they were good but I wouldn’t waste space next time with them. My wife then had Korean celeriac and I had the scotch haggis egg (out of this world this egg was), the celeriac was also seasoned beautifully. My wife hade the mushroom risotto and I had the beef (can’t remember the name). It was basically a piece of marinated beef slow cooked covered in gravy, it was delicious. A little pricey but great portions, the kids menu could have had a couple better options but other than that it was great!

We went to steak night. Food ok but steaks were cold and bleeding on plate. Waited 45 minutes to receive food. Triple cooked chips were debatable? Fed back comments to staff to be told they had passed on to chef.
