Harvest days were long, hot, and busy. During the heyday of tobacco production in the mid-to late-twentieth century, women were expected to prepare meals for upwards of two dozen people, thrice daily, for several weeks. They woke bright and early to begin the day’s food preparations. The time between meals was taken
up with dishes and planning the next meal. Nighttime was often spent baking, canning, or tending gardens.

Many farmhouses contained what was often referred to as the “back-kitchen” or “harvest kitchen” and was separate from the main kitchen. This space was outfitted to accommodate the cooking, feeding, and
cleaning up for the hungry workers.

Had a lovely lunch here for my daughter’s birthday. Food and service was great - they were able to handle her food allergies without any issues which is always a big thing with us. We will be back

We went for dinner and drinks on the patio. Our reservation was for 645pm. When we attempted to order food we found that they were out of most things. (fries being the biggest thing) that’s fine. We opted for salads and sweet potato fries. By the time our food was service which was grilled cheese, beef dip, burger and cauliflower tacos with the sides it was quarter after 8pm!! We weren’t in a hurry, but an hour and a half to make such simple food seemed long. They also forgot our caesar salads. All in all, we did enjoy ourselves but definitely some kinks needed to be worked out.

Unfortunately, we had recommended this place to our friends as last year when we went it was very good this time it was extremely disappointing. The restaurant was half full. 6:15 Saturday for 7 of us. We waited for our dinner for well over an hour. Told by the waitress no French fries as they had run out. The waitress was put in an awful situation and repeated her apologies throughout the evening as did the other 2 wait staff to other customers. When we did finally get our food it was less than satisfactory. In fact 2 said their roast beef dip was not edible and did not eat their meals. The table beside us left as we were arriving and left a lot of food on the table. The food was still there when we left and birds were eating from it as we ate. That was our ambience. I want to be clear the waitress was exceptional unfortunately she was set up to fail by the ownership. Not likely she will stay at a place that doesn’t appreciate or respect their staff.

Lovely place to dine and have some wine in an outdoor setting. Be patient and enjoy your company -food & wine tasty. Staff very pleasant.

This is a great place to enjoy a patio. Service was great. Food was a bit salty, but still enjoyable and the wine is very good.

We were celebrating our first wedding anniversary and had a wonderful meal! The wine and food were delicious and we got a complimentary cake and wine bottle opener! Thanks very much!

This was our second visit to the Burning Kiln. It was a frustrating Mother’s Day lunch. No heaters or wind breaks for outdoor seating. No options for indoor dining. If only out door dining is possible heaters and wind breaks should be part of the infrastructure. I wasn't made aware during booking of our reservation that the Mother’s Day brunch was on. It would have been nice to be made aware of that. Feels like a missed opportunity. Food service took long, then the gluten free pizza came out later than others and was still frozen. We returned it for a replacement. The serving staff was nice however it felt like it was the venues first day open for the season and that things weren’t ready for us. Returned back to our campground / rv park and friends asking how our experience was got an honest feed back. From a hospitality perspective I feel the experience was poor and not what was expected from a winery / restaurant. We were seated right away, not busy at 12:00. We paid as soon as we finished eating and it was a 2 hour turn around.

Such a beautiful room, great wine as always and a great new winter menu. Brunch offering was delicious... hope they add more choices soon!
