elegant restaurant, with a good variety of food. the duck was very good. the wine list is also valid; tried a California pinot noir that met our needs

Food was just okay. Very expensive. Had to pay extra for bread and butter. Vanilla ice cream tasted like the dumped a bucket of salt in it. There are better places.

The flavors were excellent, but EVERYTHING we ate was too salty (and I love salt!). I actually had to send the crispy mushroom appetizer back because I found it to be inedible. In addition to the mushrooms, we ordered the lamb ragu, smash burger, and pea angoletti. All of them were exceedingly salty. Excellent ambiance and service, but I think they could use some restrain with the salt.

The Alderman was just what I was looking for. We wanted a chic but casual restaurant with great food, ambiance, and walking distance to Times Square. It hit all of the marks. We started with the bread and butter and steak tartare. The bread was outstanding and the butter homemade. The steak tartare was fresh, meaty but a little chewy. I wish they had removed the sinewy parts before chopping. The skirt steak was delicious and the fried fingerling potatoes outstanding. My duck was slightly dry but the sauce (charred citrus) was really tasty. Definitely don't skip dessert. The ginger Raspberry ice cream bar was unique and a perfect ending. The strawberry old fashion with rhubarb was also incredible.

My husband and I went to The Alderman on Sat for the pre-theater menu before seeing a play at the James Earl Jones theater just a few doors down. It was a great experience. The dining room itself is inviting. Music was on at a level we could converse. The pre-theater at 45.00 pp was great value. We thoroughly enjoyed all courses, esp. the steel head trout and freshly baked brioche. We were there during happy hour, so we enjoyed the cocktail and wine specials. The hostess and our server were lovely, friendly, and attentive. They asked the time of the show we were attending and service flowed well. Those is our new spot for pre-theater dining. Bonus points for being on a calmer block then some of the neighboring streets. It's also very close to Rockefeller Center so perfect when visiting the area. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and will be back.

An actual nice restaurant with a good bar in/near Times Square. I didn't know you could find this kind of ambiance in this circus of a neighborhood. If you have clients in the area, I would definitely recommend The Alderman for drinks and dinner. Also to note: they have a special menu to accommodate shows to ensure you get a decent meal in time.

We were looking for a restaurant on the west side near 54th street and found The Alderman on w 48th street. Open Table had a special with 1,00 bonus points. We had raw oysters and steelhead trout gravlox as appetizer, both excellent. As entrees we had smashed burger with red buddy cheese, and grilled fingerling potatoes. We were very please with the choice. The service was excellent and very attentive. Sad to say there were not too many customers, but it was just after the theaters started. This was a pleasant dining surprise. Our only complaint is that it is too dark. But that can be fixed with improved lighting.

I debated about how to rate our odd experience at The Alderman on Wednesday. The dining room is well appointed but has no natural light so it felt a little drab. The first major issue was that one person in our party wanted to order the pre-theatre menu but were informed by our server that if one person at the table selected the pre-theatre menu, everyone at the table had to order. I have never heard of this before. Very strange. That fact is not listed on their website or printed menu. We all ended up ordering the pre-theatre menu as the server informed us that they were out of the pork chop (which one in our party wanted). Odd that at 6pm on a Weds with only 4 other tables with diners in the restaurant they would be out of one of the main courses. I chose the steak from the pre-theatre menu and asked for it medium well. The server told me that that might not be possible due to time (we had 8pm theatre tickets but it was only 6:20p). Is medium well that much longer than a medium steak? Another item that seemed odd to all of us was that the restaurant charges for bread and butter (unless you get the pre-theatre) I love to try new places and want to support local businesses but not sure I'll return.

I wonderful surprise with an exceptional meal from start to finish!!! As a local New Yorker, I almost don’t expect anything in Times Square to be good but I will be back at the next possible opportunity!!!!
