Comfort food from Kerala, India's spice garden. Thattu is located in the beautiful Chicago neighborhood of Avondale. It was born of Chef Margaret Pak’s love for the southwest Indian coastal cuisine of Kerala. Our menu brings you traditions of Kerala along with playful interpretations from our culinary team. Rich with aromatic spices, coconut and curry leaves, the cuisine is a celebration of the bounty of the land and the sea.

A truly special meal. Keralan food is not what most people intuit when they think of Indian restaurants but Thattu served up dish after dish of Keralan delights that upended my understanding of Indian food writ large. Absolutely lovely!

The food was fantastic. I thought the service was great although I do think the menu / ordering needs more directions. And it was a little noisy - maybe some rugs or wallcoverings would help. Otherwise, we would DEFINITELY come back and would definitely recommend.

One of the best restaurants I have been to. Took friends from out of town here, and they have not stopped talking about it. An absolute must try!

Great food, honoring Kerala food and drink with a modern take. Not your usual Indian restaurant with white table cloths and bad lighting. Bravo, well done

Amazing experience .. not ur typical tikki Marsala or butter chicken. We ordered almost everything at Thattu . Kerala Fried Chicken bites, chicken ghee roast, dosa trio, focaccia special, kadala curry, food is not very spicy .. spiciest is probably only at a level 1 .. what’s more, a no tipping restaurant, no extra fee ! I love it ..a must !

Second time visiting. Really enjoying the beers from Azadi Brewing. Tried more items + same selection as previous visit. One of the new (to me) items was the beet pastry, and it was so flaky and pretty. I didn't really understand the eggplant dish at all, however. The entreés are all stand outs 👍🏻 Looking forward to returning again.

The food of Kerala is underrepresented in the average Indian restaurant menu and Thattu emphatically rectifies that oversight. Particularly delicious were the Chicken Ghee Roast, the Chemmeen & Kappa (spicy prawns with a cambodge and coconut milk sauce and mashed yucca) and a soft shell crab chili fry. Don’t miss the appam (a delicious fermented rice and coconut milk crepe) to sop up all the fantastic sauce.
