Comfort food from Kerala, India's spice garden. Thattu is located in the beautiful Chicago neighborhood of Avondale. It was born of Chef Margaret Pak’s love for the southwest Indian coastal cuisine of Kerala. Our menu brings you traditions of Kerala along with playful interpretations from our culinary team. Rich with aromatic spices, coconut and curry leaves, the cuisine is a celebration of the bounty of the land and the sea.

First waiter was short, abrupt and kind of rude but another waiter took over and she was better. The ordering on your phone was a little strange and as I was unfamiliar with South Indian food, we would have loved a bit more explanation. The food was really good and was brought out fast. The service experience is a bit weird overall

We were blown away by our whole experience. We loved the ambience and the food. We ordered four dishes and both were so flavorful while being so balanced. It felt like tasting perfection. If you love Indian food- authentic Indian food this is the best spot in Chicago!

Some dishes were stronger than others - starters were generally fun and interesting. Beet puffs were great! Please make a spicy meat version! The mussels were an acquired taste - odd texture. Mains- The whitefish was outstanding as were the chickpeas. The veggie stew needed something more - maybe too watery. Service - tech ordering system works for groups of 2-3 but with the 5 of us, it was a bit of a pain. All the people we interacted work were fantastic 👏 Kudos to the owners for creating a 'no tip', living wage system of service. I think they are modeling the restaurant of the future. Already plotting my return visit!

Pretty Solid experience. Docked a point only because the food itself was pretty average. Great drinks though.

Cool space without trying too hard. My husband & I both enjoyed every bit of our evening at Thattu. The food was incredibly tasty, well-spiced with a lot of variety. Most dishes we chose combined flavors and textures unique to us—a fantastic introduction to some of the cuisine of southern India. Highly recommend: Spiced Bread Pudding Appam Eggplant Theeyal Meen Pollichathu—cool presentation, mildly spiced Kerala Chicken Bites Even the coffee was outstanding.
