Chef John Cleveland has the most flavorful catfish nuggets. Other highlights included Mac N Cheese, baked chicken on rice and his signature vinegar based hot sauce. Cornbread was nicely plated, however it was cold and crumbling. Was disappointed in the cookie for dessert; one cookie, the size of an Oreo was served. Shortbread cookie was dry, but full of flavor. Service was fantastic, wonderful atmosphere; and the setting is perfect for hot summer evenings.

My short ribs were delicious and so was my husband's pork chop. I thought the Caesar salad had a little too much dressing but other than that, it was great. Waiter asked if we were going to the theater and we were finished in plenty of time. (We had a 5:00 reservation for a 6:30 show.) Payment method is very easy with a scanned code and that helped us get to the show on time!

Service was slow. They may have been understaffed. Short ribs were excellent. Caesar salad was completely underdressed. Corn bread was delicious. Apple tart was forgettable. Decaf coffee was awful. Finally, our reservation was 4:45 and we had a show at the Ahmanson Theater at 6:30. We had to push our waiter to get the food out (for your info: we received the corn bread at 5:45, my drink arrived about the same time, short ribs at 5:55 and dessert at 6:15). Not a good schedule for a late Sunday afternoon at the LA Music Center!

Four months later, and we had another excellent experience. Every dish we ordered from chef John Cleveland was incredible. The catfish nuggets, vegan collards, and salmon might be the best I’ve ever tasted. Our server Akil was again exceptional, and he even remembered our multiple food allergies and restrictions to help us order the right dishes. Just wow!

I dined at Abernethy prior to the ballet at the Music Center. My reservation was for noon and I was promptly seated. I started with a cocktail and a bottle of still water. I ordered the short rib with potato purée. The short rib was cooked to perfection. The potato purée was very flavorful and the meal would certainly fit my description of comfort food. For dessert I had the Cleveland Cookie which is a favorite of mine. The restaurant was busy due to the opera playing as well but service was still very attentive and friendly. Abernethy’s was a great start to an afternoon in Los Angeles.
