Taverns were a center of daily life in colonial times. They were the local, social and political hubs that spawned the thinking that led to the American Revolution. Tavern at the Sun Inn continues in this tradition offering a Colonial-inspired Seasonal food and beverage menu in a truly unique gathering spot.
Tavern’s culinary team is led by Billy Gruenewald. He offers a casual tavern-style menu that changes to match what is seasonally available and features some ingredients that would have been available to Bethlehem’s founders. Dinner is served on the Sun Inn’s second floor and light fare and drinks outdoors on the beautiful North Green when the weather permits.

Outdoor seating is first come first serve.

We’ve been here before for lunch, and loved it. However, it just didn’t work for dinner. I had the shredded chicken thighs and my husband had the steak. They were both good, but felt like lunch time dishes. The hostess was in Jean shorts and a tshirt and was super casual in demeanor as well. Almost like a teenage daughter that you were bothering kind of a vibe. Our waitress, Shannon, was lovely. The place was practically empty as well. So, perhaps we aren’t alone in our impression. We won’t be back for dinner.

Met with the lifelong friend and we got a great seat. We had a wonderful waitress and great meal. Thank you.

Perfect night to eat outside - and Tavern has the BEST outdoor space in ALL of downtown Bethlehem! Lots of space and tables, beautiful light, and atmosphere! On top of that, you can't beat the service and food! Our waiter, Dev, couldn't be nicer or more helpful. Drinks and food came out quickly and cooked perfectly! We had mushrooms and the pretzel for appetizers, and then the blank flank, crab cake, and burger for mains. I can't say enough about the blank flank besides YUM!! Flavorful and delicious. My husband loved the burger, and the kids crabcakes were loaded with crab. We will definitely be eating here again!

It was so nice. We sat inside and everyone else outside, literally. We were the only ones inside and it was so nice and peaceful.

Tavern at the Sun was a lovely historic site with displays reminiscent of colonial times. While the drinks were amazing, the food was quite ordinary. The stuffed mushrooms app was actually very tasty, but the mushrooms were tiny. I would never choose such small mushrooms to stuff. The pretzel appetizer was nice, but the Lafayette roast beef sandwich was extremely dry and boring. I have to say that the service was excellent, though. I might try this place again and choose differently.

Best burger in the valley, and the homemade mustard and cheese sauce with the pretzel was fantastic. Our server Ashley was really great, service since COVID has been meh almost everywhere and she was above and beyond compared to pre COVID standards. Definitely going back!

The Sun Inn is the best kept secret in town. The building is beautiful and well kept and the food is great. They had a special Valentine’s Day menu still available for the weekend after Valentine’s Day which was super helpful to those of us who work during the week. They always think of everything!!

My husband and I enjoyed our dinner at Tavern at the Sun Inn. It’s a very interesting historical experience upstairs in the dining area with excellent food and service. They have a museum on the main level and a number of historic American flags downstairs in the tavern area. I highly recommend this restaurant.

2 couples for dinner. Local to Bethlehem and have been to just about every restaurant downtown. Was looking for a place we had not been to and figured we would give it chance. Very underwhelming, we were fortunate to have a good waiter but definitely could tell there was a wide range of skills between wait staff. Menu presentation was cool idea in the wooden boxes but terribly hard to read and is a ton a pages to flip through. Food was just ok, no one terribly impressed with their meal. Drinks were pretty good. Box is checked for this restaurant.
