I have eaten here several times now and the food and service have been great and consistently. Sushi fish quality is very good and fresh.

The service and ambiance were fantastic, that alone would justify a second visit!! The sushi, however, was a tad disappointing because they were tiny little pieces, which seemed like more if a grocery store sushi kind of vibe. Not sure if they were trying to save money by serving nano size pieces of Sushi, but I'll probably go elsewhere next time to look for the normal (and much more Japanese) full size version.

We were looking for new Japanese options in the neighborhood and stumbled upon this one. We had a terrific experience: the food was delicious and carefully prepared, and the service was very good, although there was some confusion translating the specials listed at the front door with what was actually available. We’ll return and recommend to others.

It wouldn’t have been so bad if the prices matched the quality. I’ve never been to a sushi restaurant and thought “woah, the brussels sprouts were the best part.” We initially ordered a handful of rolls and planned to get more after but once we ate that first roll we were very heavily disappointed. I mean even the all you can eat sushi places have better quality fish. They put something on the rolls that just completely overpower everything else. The sushimi had a unique texture to say the least, server recommended the chu toro ($16…) not even close to reasonable. It’s incredible this is one of the top rated sushi places in DC. We were very hopeful and it was just a massive let down. I should also add, we were the first table there that evening and then they put a very loud group 3 feet away at the next table when there were 15 or so other tables for them to sit at.

The food and service were excellent. The only non-positive part of the experience was that if someone would like to do the tasting menu, then the entire table is required to participate. I don't really eat seafood, but went to the restaurant for my husband's birthday since he loves sushi. He wanted to do the most expansive tasting menu, but it didn't make sense for me to do it given the cost and my food preferences. Otherwise, would highly recommend.

We had a lovely graduation lunch for our son at Takara. He is a huge sushi fan and it was so delicious. My vegetarian sister raved about her meal as well. Lovely service. They made our day even more special and we loved the decorations and the airy dining room.
