Welcome to Tahona! We are the first mezcal bar and tasting room in San Diego. In our restaurant, we invite you to taste our incredible craft cocktails and our amazing contemporary Mexican cuisine featuring Oaxacan bites. In our tasting room, we welcome you to indulge on a mezcal tasting experience!

We are located next one of the most iconic historical landmark: the Campo Santo Cemetery in Old Town. Inside Tahona, you will be transported to a modern Mexican hacienda designed with hand painted tiles, handmade rope seats, traditionally crafted fabric brought from Oaxaca, hand clayed walls and more.

We also have a cozy covered outdoor patio dining experience so you will have the choice to dine inside our hacienda or on the streets of Old Town!

A wonderful date night compliments of our Chef Adrian Villarreal. This is a 3 course meal for $95 for 2 people, with an array of appetizers to start your dinner, followed by your choice of 2 entrees, and finished with a wonderful dessert. This dinner also will include 2 of our made from scratch cocktails, beer, or wine! While dining at Tahona, you will have wonderful live music to set that atmosphere for a perfect date night!

Come and enjoy a 3 Course special handcrafted by Executive Chef Adrian Villarreal. This special will be rotating daily and will feature the freshest ingredients and items hand selected by Chef Adrian. The 3 Course meal will consist of an Appetizer, an Entree, and a Dessert for $45. Pair this dinner with a specialized mezcal flight to create an unforgettable dining experience!

First time at Tahona...and certainly will not be the last!! Clearly a wonderful, delicious and original Mexican food and mezcal experience. The staff could NOT have been nicer...and the owner more accommodating. Much fun! I shall return!

This was my 5th New Years Eve meal in the last 6 years. I return as the meal is always a delight. From the greeting at the door to the music and service always on point, the venue is quaint and homey. The food is well thought out and is executed with excellent ingredients and plated with precision. I highly recommend this restaurant for not only the meals but the tastings of Mescals with chocolates and other tasty treats.

We love Tahona, food is great, drinks are perfect and service is super friendly. They also have a secret bar in the back that requires a separate reservation. Check it out.

We had reservations for an outside table; it ended up being a rainy evening and they were able to offer us a table indoors. For drinks, we enjoyed the Tempranillo and the Oaxaca Rosito, which is a Negroni with Mezcal instead of gin; it was luscious and smoky. As appetizers, we enjoyed the chips with a smoky orange and hot green salsas and the Tetala Mole Flight. The latter is a large triangular patty filled with potatoes and cheese, artfully topped with their three moles. It was so fun to taste all of their delicious moles. Our entrees were the Burris Ramen, with braised short ribs and noodles in a delicious broth; and a carnitas taco and a mushroom & cauliflower taco. Both were wonderful, and I appreciated that the tacos were ala carte. We shared the Chocoflan for dessert; this is flan atop a thin chocolate cake layer, topped with raspberry mousse and freeze dried strawberries, with passion fruit caramel on the plate. Everything was delicious and the service was excellent. This was a refreshing change from typical Sonoran and Tex-Mex restaurants.

Been here twice now and won’t be returning. The food is underwhelming and the service was terrible recently. M was our server. He didn’t write our order down, came back to clarify, and kept messing up. He brought out the wrong appetizer, forgot to put in drinks twice (took 40+ mins for one drink), and forgot to put in an entree. Pros: the appetizers and drinks were really good. Cons: Entrees were just ok. Service was terrible, and prices don’t match the quality.

Came here because a gift card and with every course we were blown away - the food was absolutely amazing! Each plate is carefully thought out with complex flavors and lovely presentation. And the service and ambiance equally great. We definitely will be back!
