Each month, we select a prestigious winery and invite their team to join us, transforming this event into a private tasting where guests can discover the details behind their most iconic wines while enjoying our signature traditional Spanish cuisine. Taberna del Alabardero is honored to welcome José Ramón Urtasun, owner of Bodega Remírez de Ganuza. Founded in 1989, Bodegas Remírez de Ganuza was born from the personal commitment of its founder, Fernando Remírez de Ganuza. Today, it stands as one of the most historic and important wineries in DOCa Rioja, recognized for its outstanding white and red wines. With a background in Environmental Science, José Ramón Urtasun entered the wine industry almost by chance when his family became involved in the business in 2010. Since then, Bodegas Remírez de Ganuza has become his life’s work. He oversees every aspect of the winery, personally managing commercial, marketing, and production strategies with a small but highly dedicated team. For this special occasion, we have crafted a Tasting Menu, pairing the most iconic Remírez de Ganuza wines with the finest Spanish cuisine. A special thank you to Estebe Salgado, CEO of Tradewinds. The room we were in was nice. Like we were in another country. Wanted to see the Flamenco show but it started later than 8pm so we didn’t get to see it. The food was excellent for the part except the steak had a lot of greasy parts. But overall we had a great experience.

Absolutely a great Valentine's experience! Food, wine, and service was first rate. I asked my waiter to choose our wine and he did not disappoint! Would not hesitate recommending this place.

My partner and I dined at this venerable restaurant during Restaurant Week thinking that we could sample the cuisine at a bargain price as its regular prices are quite high. The quality of the food was disappointing. For appetizers I had the croquet as de Jamon Serrano and my partner has the Jambas al ajillo. My croquetss were tasty but very little jamon. In contrast, the Jambas were overcooked. For the main course we both had the paella Margareta. It was terrible! The rice was heavy and thick and way too salty. The shrimp were overcooked and tough. We had the flan for desssert, which was the best of the three courses. To management’s credit, the restaurant only charged us for our wine after hearing our complaint. For that I left an extra large tip. Based on the quality of the food we will not be returning to this restaurant. DC has too many excellent restaurants to bother coming back. What a shame. This was an opportunity squandered by the restaurant.
