I had reservations for my birthday. Once we were seated I had to wait over 15 minutes to be acknowledged by our waiter. He took our order and we could tell he was new. We asked him how long he worked there and he said three days we asked for water and we never got it until 30 minutes into our seating, we waited 40 minutes for our entrées and I did not receive the sides that I ordered. I explained this to the staff that brought my food and then instead of bringing me the sides that I ordered they removed my whole entree plate, now it’s over an hour from when we got seated and I still haven’t eaten After waiting an hour and 40 minutes I decided to leave my friend’s meal came and she was able to eat so I was the only one who had no food after waiting an hour and 45 minutes. The manager was requested and she only made excuses stating the waiter was new and in training, I mentioned that no one was training him. He was left to his own and she didn’t even apologize, ruined my birthday dinner and it’s unfortunate because I’ve eaten at this establishment several times and at their location in Washington and have always had good food and decent service management could not even offer, any type of resolve for what I had to endure on such a special evening. They offered no compensation and tried to add an automatic 17% gratuity (which they were told to remove and I left the waiter a $10 tip despite the poor service). Unacceptable service and the management offered to resolve or compensation, sad to say they are no longer a resturant l will support

Nice staff & nice place aesthetically, but poorly managed. We had 5:30 pm dinner reservations for a show that was to start at 7 pm, literally across the street. Food didn’t arrive until an hour later, so we had to rush eating & I just couldn’t finish. Had to get a to-go box & go back to car to drop it off. We knew we were in trouble when we didn’t see a waiter for at least 15 min in, not even for a glass of water, & we contemplated finding somewhere else to go but knew it would only eat into time that we didn’t have. Yes, the restaurant was busy (definitely more people planning to attend the show), but the restaurant has been there long enough to know how to handle larger crowds at peak times, even if that includes not overbooking. Additionally, the food was so-so. No plans to return.

The food was excellent. The service not so much. The unfriendly hostess sat us at a table in the back with no menus. We were ignored for over 10 minutes before I grabbed a waiter passing by to get our waiter and menus. Over 5 more minutes before we received menus. The waiter finally arrived and asked what we wanted but literally just got the menus. Ordered…waiter disappeared. Apparently, we were his only table in that room. Meal served. It was delicious. Waiter shows back up with the check and didn’t even ask if we wanted dessert. They automatically add a 17% tip to the bill. Way too much for the crappy service. Good thing the food was good.

This was my 3rd time and the food was amazing but the waiter we had could have been better because we had to keep asking him for your water that he kept forgetting.

It was the strangest experience I've ever had at a restaurant. We were seated and then never talked to again. after fifteen minutes waiting with the menu (not even water) I got up to find a wait staff who said he'd come to our table in a moment. Eight minutes later, we decided to leave. I have no idea what to make of this blatant ignore but it didn't feel good and we won't be returning.

lots of meat and fried foods but chicken curry was delicious. service really needs improvement. wait staff are inattentive, front desk often empty when i went to complain. kitchen very very slow. we needed to have our half eaten meals packed to go otherwise we would have been late for the show. when there are events at njpac they need to be prepared for a full restaurant which they clearly are not. they automatically add a 17% gratuity. i guess to make sure tips are given since with the poor service some might not tip so well.

This was our first visit to Swahili Village. We went there prior to a concert at NJPAC. We arrived at 5:00 pm for a 7:30 show to make sure that there would be plenty of time for an unrushed meal. The staff were very friendly. The food was great. We would certainly go back.
