Sushi Yūgen offers an authentic omakase experience, crafted by Head Chef Kyohei Igarashi, who brings expertise from Tokyo, mastering both kaiseki and sushi, including leading a Michelin-starred omakase counter.

Our restaurant features two dining experiences: an 8-seat Chef’s counter (Wed-Sat) and a 12-seat main sushi counter (Mon-Sat), each with unique menus.

Located in Toronto’s financial district, Sushi Yūgen embraces Japanese minimalism and wabi-sabi, celebrating beauty in imperfection and nature’s cycles. Our name, Yūgen, signifies ‘profound mystery and beauty,’ reflecting our philosophy.

Overall we were very happy with the food and the chef. A couple of things to not for the service. When people are seated, we are cautioned not to move the little wet tissue for cleaning fingers. There should be a proper wer tissue provided to all guests to clean their fingers before starting the service, considering that it is expected to eat each piece with your fingers. Second, we felt rushed as our bill was showed to our faces half way through the dessert which was kind of rude. We wanted to enjoy the experience to the fullest but servers constantly pushing agsinst our backs unexpectedly was a distraction. Will try now other Omakase places in Toronto for comparison.

Ingredients were good quality and each course was prepared simply and with care. But we were seated late and then rushed out way before our 45 minutes was up to make room for new guests. What made this worse was noticing that the other guests were allowed to stay in their seats, and most of them remained in the dining room beyond the 45-minute time slot. I guess we were closest to the door and perhaps looked like the type who wouldn't make a fuss so we were "chosen" to be kicked off the island. When you spend over $330 for two people, for an experience that lasted just over 30 minutes, it's hard not to feel cheated. I reached out to one of the owners over LinkedIN and never received a response. Perhaps their dinner service merits a ranking as one of Canada;s 100 Best Restaurants but I would highly recommend avoiding their lunch service. We've had much better omakase lunches in other spots -- in terms of food and service -- so I am taking this place off my list of restos.

Chef was too busy interacting with one person who seemed to be from his town. Didn’t even mention the sushi that was being served

The food was amazing. However, the entire experience was extremely rushed! I understand they need to maximize seating times, but it felt like we were rushed to order drinks, eat each course, and get out ASAP! We didn't even get to finish our sake and were asked to finish the rest of the drinks outside of the restaurant.

Nothing can be complaint overall, if one thing has to be review may be the portion of the food should be a bit larger. By choosing the most expensive Omakase set already, we still feel hungry after the dinner. We'd understand the experience may be more important, but our body won't lie we still hungry after all...lol Regardless of the above, the environment, services, foods are excellent.
