The name of the restaurant is inspired by the Legend of Janare of Benevento. Strega means ‘witch’ in Italian and Benevento is considered the “city of witches”.
At Strega, our mission is to transport our guests to the Italy we cherish. Drawing inspiration from traditions across the Italian peninsula, we are dedicated to crafting an authentic Italian experience. With a profound appreciation and understanding of Italy’s rich history and culinary heritage, we prioritize using imported Italian products and are committed to maintaining authenticity in our recipes and menu selections.
At Strega, we believe that cooking with seasonal, authentic ingredients means there is not need for unnecessary embellishment - our food tastes great, is fresh, and at its peak. Our experience is crafted through a series of selected choices. We take pride in serving freshly made dishes, embracing wholesome Italian cooking with fresh and healthy ingredients.

The wait staff were wonderful as was the opening cocktail and bread! The place is very tastefully decorated, great ambiance. The meals themselves were good but overly salted. Considering the price I would have thought the orzo and vegetable meal would have been more interesting and substantial. The gnocchi were very good and plentiful.

Amazing meals and wine, fantastic service and recommendations. Unique and interesting spin on foods. The gnocchi was outstanding - the best I've ever had. The stuffed calamari was a burst of different flavors and textures. My 12 year old, extremely picky son requested to come here after a birthday visit for dad. He said it's the best pasta he's had since our visit to Italy in April. The staff very graciously accommodated his request for plain fettuccine with olive oil and parm on our first visit. Upon our second visit, they went above and beyond, making him an alfredo sauce that was to die for. Wonderful restaurant, attentive staff! We'll be back!

We’ve eaten at Strega Milford many times and are never disappointed, so our expectations were high for the New Haven location and they were far exceeded. The food was outstanding. The duck was the best duck I’ve ever had. The Cuttlefish Fettuccine was so delicious and the Ziti Ragú was so hearty and flavorful. Danilo was an excellent host from start to finish and helped us select an excellent bottle of wine from their extensive list. Can’t wait to return!

We had a fantastic experience at Strega. The ambiance was lovely, the service was top-notch, and the food was absolutely delicious! Would highly recommend!

I had the salmon for my main dish and it was delicious and the quality of the salmon was great.

The Food was good and overall we had a nice meal and nice night but this is a place for a specific clientele. First of all, there are 6 4-top tables. It’s a very small space. The portions are small; the prices are high. When asked if the Appetizers are shareable, our waitress suggested yes, 2 apps for 4 people should be fine. After ordering we did not agree. The eggplant app was delicious as was the salad but not close to enough for 4, literally barely a taste for each of us. Four bread slices for 4 people came with Excellent olive oil. 3 of our table ordered pasta dishes. These were homemade and delicious but small portions. One person ordered the short rib entree and it was very small. We had asked the server if they recommend ordering pasta and an entree or extra pasta dish and were discouraged. All of use ate our dishes and were left wanting. Same was the case for desserts. The tableware and plates were unique and presentation was pretty. An all Italian wine list. Overall, it was a nice meal, and worth a try, but not our style. They are shooting for an upscale fine dining experience, perhaps a romantic evening out. It’s just hard to drop $100+ per person and wish there was more to eat or wish there was something to eat that was so special you want to talk about it to friends but, sadly that was not the case.

We experienced wonderful, flavorful appetizers and entrees, very artfully prepared and presented. They were absolutely gorgeous! We were especially pleased with the eggplant and carpaccio appetizers, as well as all of the entrees, which included the salmon, gnocchi sorrentina, duck and beef short ribs. The portions were fairly small, but that was expected because I had read the reviews.

We absolutely loved our experience at Strega! The food was creative and so delicious, excellent cocktails & wine, and the decor simple and beautiful.
