A contemporary take on the classic oyster bar, located in Fort Greene, Brooklyn, near BAM, Barclay's, the Paramount, and Atlantic Terminal.

Strange Delight finds its influence in New Orleans and is also inspired by the rich history of oysters in New York. Our menu consists of regional seafood prepared in a variety of styles: Charbroiled Oysters and Shrimp Remoulade share the stage with classic seafood towers and Oysters Rockefeller. A rotating selection of larger plates features items such as Black Cod Almondine and Blackened Swordfish Belly.

To drink, Strange Delight updates old classics, serving both a Hurricane and Ramos Gin Fizz service for 2, alongside Martinis and Sazeracs. Our wine and beer lists feature our favorite American producers.

We offer 3 distinct types of reservations:
Regular: a table in our back dining room
Bar: seats at our back dining room bar
High-top: a higher table with bar stools in our front room with an open kitchen and oyster counter.

Avant même que le New Yorker n'encense le Strange Delight, cet hommage porté aux célèbres cabanes à huîtres et aux cocktails de la Nouvelle-Orléans faisait déjà parler de lui. Commencez par un verre de ramos gin fizz onctueux, poursuivez avec un plateau d'huîtres cuites à la braise avec du beurre à l'ail fumé et dégustez le tout dans un cadre vous donnant l'impression d'être dans un bar à huîtres typique de la Nouvelle-Orléans. Après une seule visite, cet établissement deviendra une étape incontournable avant ou après un spectacle au BAM.

I have been disappointed by other New Orleans restaurants in New York but Strange Delight was a pleasant surprise. No gumbo or etouffee or jambalaya but excellent oysters and shrimp . The shrimp remoulade was as good as any I’ve had in New Orleans and better than some. We’ll be back.

We found out about Ham’s new venture because my partner and I are huge fans of watching Sohla + Ham together on YouTube! Unfortunately, it was a really poor experience when it came to the food. We’re not wealthy, so we can only go out to a nice place once a month, and we wanted to really ball out and ended up regretting it. Pro’s: Great ambiance and friendly servers! Hush puppies are great, served with a smoked butter, so good. A free bit of bread pudding for desert, aromatic and nice. Con’s: All the other food. Prices have gone up since some of the online menus have been posted. We split the small Seafood Tower and an Oyster Loaf sandwich. The big disappointment was the Seafood Tower (really an elevated plate). The oysters were the size of quarters, the smallest I’ve ever been served, and were SO sandy and packed with bits of shattered shell, and we each stopped after choking down one. We left all the rest on the plate but the server didn’t remark on it. The smoked fish and shrimp spreads on the tower were decent, but felt unspectacular, as were the two bits of icey salmon and the four shrimp were, well, boiled shrimp. For $80 it felt like the a big ripoff :/ Same thing with the Oyster Loaf sandwich; the oyster was nearly undetectable! We crunched through what seemed like a sea of under-seasoned clumps of batter and had no experience of biting into an actual nice, juicy oyster. And it was nearly 30 dollars with no sides! I had a a beer that came in a can and tasted like bud light and my partner had a (really nice!) mocktail, total bill came to $170. We came out because we loved Sohla and Ham and wanted to ball out to support them but we left with a big dent in our wallets and a lot of disappointment. Ham was there when we went tonight, but spent the whole 90 minutes we were there hanging at the bar and chatting with what looked like a friend. I didn't expect to be so disappointed in the whole affair, but we were.

I was looking forward to trying Strange delight for over a month now. I heard good things about the flavor of the food. I was completely disappointed though. Very limited food options. Poorly seasoned shrimp. Soggy and bland Wonder bread sandwich bread used for the shrimp po boy. Fried shrimp basket and catfish bites were fried using cornmeal. Whoever fried the shrimp obviously needs to use flour instead of cornmeal. Shrimp falling out of the cornmeal batter leaving you with a shell of cornmeal in the sandwich. The tables are too close together. Other guests literally pulling their tables to the side so as not to hit the guests seated next to them with their butts and thighs. Not at all accommodating for larger guests. We couldn’t hear ourselves talk over the music. Two of our waiters constantly serving guests over our shoulders. My waiter was nice but needed deodorant. Not a pleasant experience at all. We ordered only 3 items no alcohol. The bill was 95.00. Totally not worth the price.

Crab dip and potatoes with bearnaise sauce were outstanding. Shrimp loaf was also amazing. Bbq shrimp wasn’t life changing, but was good

10/10. Service, food and cocktails. A perfect spot for pre-show drinks and nibbles. Order the chargrilled oysters and the crab dip. Wash it all down with one of their Very Cold Martinis.

service was attentive and friendly, the music was on point, and everything we ate was delicious! so excited to try chef nini’s food and check out some strange delight dishes for the first time too. will definitely be back!

I sat at the back bar and was served by… I think her name was Miranda. She was very nice and knowledgeable about the menu. Food was amazing and fresh. Also thanks to the GM… I think her name was Eva, for chatting with me outside the restaurant afterwards. Amazing experience and I will definitely be back. Strange Delight does NOLA right. And Thanks Anoop!

This place is wonderful. Amazing food without being pretentious. The service was top notch. Highlights from our meal were the shrimp po boy, the Chinese broccoli miso salad, the hush puppies with Steen's butter. Our Freaky French drinks were superb and boozy, just like I like em. And to top it off they gave us a free dessert.

Food is food. Not as good as the reviews made it to be though. I thought it was really weird to tell me we only had 90 min at our table as I was being seated. I think that left a bad taste in my mouth. It would ha been more appropriate for the waiter to say that if we weee approaching that time and we had not finished our entrees. We were in and out in 1 hour. Drinks were great.
