I took a friend out for a nice dinner. Disappointed at the quality and quantity of food. When I think I am dining at a nice restaurant, I hope to be blown away with food and have an amazing food experience. I also hope to be inspired to cook at home. Not from this experience. $29 for a small plate of lame breaded calamari? $19 for a tiny serving of mushrooms. $19 for a small serving of Brussel sprouts? The steak was nothing to write about, even though I am typing. The service was great, but that was about it.

STK is way overrated and overpriced. The experience started off poorly as soon as we arrived. We made reservations for the same night as a Denver Nuggets game and so we knew parking would be hard to find. We called STK two hours before and asked if they had valet parking. The employee who answered the phone did not know and put me on hold for nearly five minutes to find out. (How do you not know if the restaurant where you work has valet service???) The employee finally returns and tells us that they do not have valet service. We end parking nearly a half mile away and walking to STK, only to find the valet stand set up right in front of the restaurant. Whoever the employee was who gave us the erroneous information should be fired for being clueless, or at least for being lazy--Dude, if you don't know, just look out the front window and you'd see the valet stand. Once we arrived, the "Vibe" atmosphere inside was not what you would expect for a pricey restaurant. The music was thumping so loud you could barely carry on a conversation with the person next to you and the lighting was so dim you couldn't read the menu without the flashlight on your phone. Between the neon signs, the TVs at the bar, and some of the fashion-challenged clientele, it seemed more like a pick-up bar or a strip club than a a high-end steak house. We watched during almost our entire meal while one of the security staff, who had a wedding ring on his finger, hit on and chatted up a tipsy woman at the bar. This guy was trying so hard it was cringe-worthy. The service was just average. Our server seemed to always be in a hurry just to get us to order and the food was a great disappointment. The New York strip was overcooked and tough in places and had quite a bit of fat on it. The chimichurri sauce that came with it was almost entirely olive oil. $350+ for a dinner for two seems high for the mediocre food and service. Definitely not worth the hype.

Calamari was chewy, mushrooms were super Smokey and weird with goat cheese. Overall, steak and service was good.

I left and told my wife I felt as if we were robbed. The bill was $440 without apps or alcohol. We ordered two four ounce portions of the A5 Waygu. On each of our plates a full ounce or the portion was gristle. Never returning.

Service was slow-waiter not super attentive for this level of spend. Oscar style topping came out cold on my steak. Rare steak was NOT rare. Sent it back. At this price point, there are better options in Denver. Fun rocking atmosphere though!
