Steuben’s is named after a restaurant in Boston that my Great Uncles, Max and Joe, opened in 1945. Steuben's became a famous Boston restaurant, nightclub, and hotspot from the 1940’s to the 1960’s on Boylston Street. The Vienna Room, The Cave, and The Blue Room were all part of the Steuben's space and hosted Big Band, Jazz, and Swing groups with The Rat Pack, proms and sweet sixteens, and more. In its prime, Steuben’s was the center of the Boston dining and nightlife scene.

Really surprising, the two dishes I specifically came to Steuben’s for, namely pot roast or meat loaf I was told they were out of! Strange. I was surprised. Friday night at 6, hard to believe. We’ve been to Steuben’s several times over the years always had good experiences. A bit disappointed by missing either of those dishes. This time service good, drinks good, food limited… I had the fried chicken and it was good, no veggies though, just chicken and mashed potatoes.

As with any business, we are often times faced with circumstances out of our control, be it staffing issues, product shortages, or unexpected volume that reduces our product stock more than anticipated. We do our very best to have everything on our menu in stock at all times, but from the to time that simply isn't possible. This weekend was one of those instances. We've all had those days, right??? The portions keep getting smaller. I paid for fries - like $5 - in addition to a tiny cheeseburger for $15. I think there were maybe….just maybe…12-15 fries on my plate - for an additional $5!!! Looked like a child’s meal. What a rip-off. The food is good but the portions are way too small. We won’t be coming back.

Great service and fantastic comfort food. Happy hour deals from 2-6 pm were a nice bonus.

**Midnight Café Experience** Went here to celebrate Valentine’s Day but the overall experience was bad. The service was terrible since we got there, I had a reservation and still waited for 25 minutes to be seated. It took about an hour to get our food and we were only able to order one drink since the waiter was nowhere to be found. The food was alright, nothing special and the ambiance was good for the ocassion.

Didn't feel like they were prepared for this holiday. We spent 2 hrs here and almost 1.25 was waiting for our food. We watched others have to leave because it took so long. The food was ok and overpriced. Was comped the bread. The space was nice and different but quite noisy as customers were crowded all over trying to fit in the space. Feels like the amount of money incoming was worth more than the overall experience for the period that were already squished in. Although I'm not sure how a restaurant closes the doors for the night or halts reservations, maybe it's impossible, impractical or simply not feasible. 2/22/2025 update. Received email reply stating the apologies for them trying something different for the holiday and it not working out well. Offered a gift card for a possible return. We accepted and did NOT receive a reply on our acceptance nor a gift card. This swung the rating a star lower. Sorry.

Overall the experience was very disappointing and terrible. Starting with our table, we were sat outside 30 mins after our reservation, tables were squeezed so close together there wasn’t any room to walk (the table side Caesar salad maker had to stay 20 ft away from the table), and there was a live band inside that we could not enjoy because we were outside. Sitting people outside is unacceptable when it is freezing out regardless if there are heaters. This was advertised as a white tablecloth diner with live music. The setup was not thought out at all. The service was very slow as well. We ordered drinks when we were sat and it took 30 mins for them to be served. Our entrees took 90 mins to be served after we were sat. Many of the tables around us left without diner and we were close to doing the same. The food was terrible as well. I ordered the baked chicken with Alfredo. The pasta tasted like paste and the Alfredo obviously came out of a jar. My fiancée order the steak frites and it was served cold. Entrees were $30+ and were the quality of a lean cuisine. At the end of the night we received a $160 bill which would be understandable for a white tablecloth meal with live music, not a cold meal on patio chairs. We have ordered from Steuben’s on DoorDash a couple times and figured we should try dining in. After this experience I don’t want to order from Steubens on DoorDash anymore. This was the worst dinner I have had in my life.

The Café Midnight experience for Valentine’s Day was absolutely perfect! The ambience was very romantic, including a live band. We received free champagne while we waited for our table and I got a bouquet delivered to our table after we were seated. The food was delicious (as usual) and the service, though a bit slow because of how packed it was, was still very good! Highly recommend Steuben’s for your next date night!
