Had a small group luncheon at State Fare and very impressed with the service and delicious food. The restaurant was clean, and everyone was nice and accommodating.

I enjoyed both the atmosphere and service. Although I believe more attention should be payed to cleaning the floors around the tables between guests. I ordered the 'Flight' of Bloody Mary's. They were all four unimpressive and watery. I ordered the Queso Blanco for an appetizer. Although the Queso, Guac and Salsa were well made and delicious, the handmade chips were either stale or were not cooked long enough and desperately needed salt. For an entree I went with the Shrimp & Grits. At $27 bucks I expected better. The bowl was tasty enough but the grits themselves were a bit lumpy/congieled and I would have preferred a more serious sear on the shrimp in this Cajun Dish. Generally speaking, with the seemingly endless supply of places to 'Try Out' in the Houston Area, there was nothing here that would lure me back.

Such a shame….i liked the vibe of the restaurant but the service was beyond horrible. They were so slow and we had to ask for everything.

Was not crowded but had several large groups. Wait staff seemed overwhelmed and understaffed. Food was “ok” but we will not be returning. Staff was pleasant but really stressed. Needs some management intervention to save this place.

We sat in for about 1 1/2 hours and the waiter only checked on us maybe two times. We had to ask other staff members to check on our food which took forever. When the food did arrive, it was cold and poorly plated. we have eaten at this location, four or five times previous and have not had this experience before. They actually forgot to put in two of our orders and they never even came to the table. The manager apologized and comped the items it did not receive. The experience was so bad we do not see ourselves returning here anytime soon.

It's been over a year since we've eaten at State Fare. I had higher expectations. The service was great. She was attentive and helpful. The food, however, was mediocre. My husband had the ribeye and ate less than half of it. He said it was so tough he could barely chew it and it was full of fat. Two guests ordered Brussels sprouts and both had the same takeaway - they were soaked in sweet liquid and were barely edible. Our table of 4 guests probably ate less than 6 Brussels sprouts between us. The gumbo was thick and more like a gravy than a gumbo. However, the shrimp, andouille and chicken were pretty tasty...just not in the form of a gumbo. Four entrees, a salad, one lemonade and one old fashioned...with tip was $180. It certainly did not feel like a $180 meal. We left feeling a bit queasy from it all. Because we were hosting our guests, we did not mention our dissatisfaction with the server or manager as we didn't want to make our guests feel uncomfortable.
