A contemporary British pub with an astonishing dining room. St Johns serves well sourced, seasonal British food along with classic European regional dishes. No, it's not the famous St John's restaurant in London, it's the gastropub for locals in Archway and Tufnell Park. Lively, busy with a frequently changing menu chalked up on the board above the roaring open fire, St John's is a good place for dinner with friends or a deux. Interesting starters - jellied pig's head (very tasty) and a good, fresh salad including quince and blue cheese, followed by hearty mains of braised lamb shank or fish and chips. Good wine list too.

If you want to try some dishes cooked with care, this is to place to go. Good service and great ambiance.

The St John's Tavern is a great pub/restaurant with a lovely atmosphere and vibe. I'd recommend the pig's head terrine and the sea bream.

I went here on a Friday night with 4 friends and had a really lovely time. The service was very friendly and accommodating, the wine was tasty. I had the sea trout with potatoes and broccoli which was perfectly cooked and a nice big portion. The steak looked and smelled amazing. The chocolate brownie went down a treat. Not the cheapest place, especially considering the area, but definitely well worth it for a special occasion. Would travel to Archway specifically to return.

St John's was excellent as always. They have an interesting and not-overlong menu and enthusiastic, knowledgeable staff. We had a great evening though the noise level was sometimes a bit much - it's quite a loud room and with diners happily chattering away like jackdaws I question whether it really needs music on too. Nevertheless, a top place which I cheerfully recommend.
