    Lovely restaurant and nice staff. A lot of food options were unavailable on the menu which was quite disappointing. The food was nice but did not live up to all the hype I had heard.

    Went to St. John on a chilly evening, sat upstairs directly in front of the door and with the aircon also turned on, so it was on the chilly side. The serving staff were quite welcoming and the service good. We shared the rissole which came with an extremely punchy aioli (a bit heavy on the raw garlic to be honest) which was nice. I then had a delicious artichoke soup and my companion the mackerel (which was very bony) as starters. The mains, and particularly the middle white pork were underwhelming. The pork was very dry and served on a cold plate with carrots that were well on the overcooked side. For some reason the entire dish was also drowned in what appeared to be gravy and oil, which didn't improve the dry pork, it just made it tepid and greasy. The hake dish was ok. We had a bottle of the house white wine which worked well with all the dishes. The mains took FOREVER to turn up, a fact the serving staff apologised for, offering us a bag of their madeleines as recompense which we took away. Those fresh warm madeleines were absolutely delicious, by far the best thing served. I'd go back for those, and the soup... But not for the mains.

    Out of multiple dishes, only the Hake (though not the courgette), the Cod Cheeks and the Apple crumble were enjoyed. The rarebit was ok, the potted pork had gristle (but was removed from the bill), the pea soup was ok but the ham had been turned into jerky and was difficult to eat. The kale and lentil main course was not very good, in texture or flavor. Our server was sweet and fine. The basement space is less than wonderful, though clean and white. Once here was enough.

    The servers are St John's are so good at what they do. They really helped make our meal a memorable experience. We ordered enough for 4 people and shared all our courses and everything was perfectly cooked and only made better by the sauces. Is recommended the poached pear we tried as one of our deserts. Delicately spiced with a subtle taste, great way to end a heavy meaty meal.

    We were given a warm welcome and a discreet table was specially laid up for us. The food was interesting and excellent. We had the terrine, the venison liver special and the lambs' tongues, because the restaurant is known for nose to tail eating. Unusual ingredients were presented in delicious ways. We took our own bottle of wine, on which corkage is charged. The cheese was also excellent.

    This is one of the best Michelin Star Restaurant I've been too. Everything was great. Their menu can change because what I saw online was not on today's menu. I started with the Mackerel on Rye. That was so good. They recommended the Fried Rarebit, but I was looking for something lighter. Then second course was the Venison with Raddish was exquisite and definitely my favorite. Then my main course was the Roast Middle White which is a roast pork belly. My only mistake is ordering the salad, which was too much and I didn't have enough space for their dessert. Will return again.
