Aptly named for its locale, Southern Social nestles up to the old Southern Railway’s historic Germantown Depot and sits adjacent to Southern Avenue.

Owners of downtown Memphis’ Flight Restaurant and Wine Bar have opened Southern Social. The top tier fine dining restaurant will reflect the high standards established at Flight.

We had a great time our Sever Issac was the best!! The Porkchop dinner was out of this world and I highly recommend you try it!

We were greeted warmly and seated promptly, drinks and appetizer were ordered. So far, so good. Then it went downhill. Our dinner orders came out rather quickly, They were lukewarm, almost cold. We both sampled them and requested our waitperson to return. She did and responded to our complaint. She asked if we wanted them warmed, (NO) and instead would we like them to prepare new ones (YES). The manager then came over and apologized for the problem and assured us they would take care of it. Again, rather quickly, the "new" dishes came out. They were the original ones, just probably microwaved. We could tell as the food we sampled was what was returned. Call this restaurant Southern So-So. Update: It's apparent Southern Social takes reviews seriously as they should. They contacted me for further information on how they can do better than our most recent experience. That in itself speaks volumes as to the value they place on customers' opinions. We discussed what happened and they were appreciative of my feedback. Southern Social has always been a favorite of ours and their attention to this restores my faith in them. We look forward to our next visit as this was most likely just "one of those days" we all have from time to time.

UPDATE to my review: The manager reached out about my experience and asked good questions, heard my feedback, and assured me these items would be addressed. It is so nice to know they take pride in their restaurant and the experience their patrons have. I look forward to dining at Southern Social again. We have been going to Southern Social for years to celebrate special occasions. Last night's dinner was just "okay". I don't think I've ever said that about this restaurant, it is usually exceptional. Pros: 1. Our waitress, Christina, she was wonderful. Very personable, attentive, knowledgable. 2. The pimento cheese sandwich appetizer was delicious as always 3. The personalized birthday menu was very kind & the creme brûlée was amazing Cons: 1. The new staff uniforms make them all look frumpy and not as sophisticated of a restaurant. 2. One of the salads that was ordered was missing some ingredients listed on the menu. 3. The cajun shrimp pasta dish that was ordered was missing the sausage that was listed on the menu. 4. The redfish & crab dish that was ordered was just "okay", not nearly as good as past orders. 5. There was a party of 6 seated next to us that was on their phones watching loud things, it completely took away from the ambiance and nicety of the experience. We will be back but hopefully the staff, ambiance, and quality of food will go back to how it use to be.

Can’t say enough good things about my experience at southern social! The food, atmosphere, and drinks were all memorably outstanding but the service really made our night perfect. Caitlin (our lovely server) was friendly, knowledgeable and helpful with her suggestions, attentive, and truly went above and beyond to make our night special. We would come back just to see her! Thank you southern social team!

Wine. Exceptional. Service. Exceptional. Atmosphere. Exceptional. Steaks rival any steakhouse and always have. Menu needs some lighter options as set ups even for fish entrees are heavy. Southern could also bring back the crab cake, which originated there and is now at Coastal.

Overall a very good visit. But server got our order wrong at appetizers and two of our sides did not come out with food and had to be asked for. When you are the most expensive spot in town; that’s not acceptable. We were also a party of 7 and instead of a table in a room we got a rather large booth with two chairs put by it. Probably needed two servers and only got one.
