Southern Kitchen, which is known as "The Mouth of the South" to the locals, serves up comfort food favorites. From collard greens to fried fish and chicken, the eatery provides a comfortable, relaxed spot for enjoying classic Southern food, beer, and wine for lunch, and dinner. Since opening in 2014, the restaurant has focused on providing good food paired with a classy experience and great customer service. Southern Kitchen features a variety of options for starting the meal, including fried oysters, fried okra, southern rolls, and salad. Enjoy sandwiches like the salmon cake and chicken club, or dive into some apple pecan salad, fried fish, big momma's chicken, and chicken livers and onions. Southern Kitchen also features plenty of filling plates, including the seafood platter, meatloaf, catfish, and southern-fried pork chops.

While the service was excellent, the food was a mixed experience. To start, the cornbread arrived cold and slathered in far too much butter, which really took away from the flavor. The short ribs were unfortunately the worst I’ve had—extremely chewy and hard to enjoy. The catfish was cooked well, but had a strong, fishy taste that was off-putting. On the positive side, the sides were the highlight. The mac and cheese was rich and comforting, and the greens were flavorful. My daughter enjoyed her yams, though her chicken was a bit dry. My son, however, loved the chicken and waffles, which was a redeeming option. Overall, while some items had promise, the uneven quality of the dishes would make me think twice before coming back.

Not great but not terrible. Food was decent, served hot but not in sync (my dining partner had to wait quite some time for their entree after I received mine). But staff was courteous and attentive. Made us feel welcome. Owner was present and engaging - dressed to the nines! Easy to converse because noise level was minimal.

Wonderful food and amazing service. Love seeing this space reopened. Restaurant is bright and vibrant. Great place for family gatherings, special occasions, or date night.

The entire experience was exceptional. We had a reservation for 6pm and from the time we walked in we were seated immediately, the waitress came over promptly and took our drink orders. She returned with our drinks in a timely manner and took our orders. Our orders came out within 30 minutes and everything was hot and well prepared. We were celebrating my mom’s 73rd birthday and the waitress brought her dessert with a candle and sung with us. The owner Shane is also very personable and present on the floor. Also, we went on Halloween and although there were several other large parties and a steady flow patrons, it did not impact our service. Would definitely go back.

The food is way over priced compared to the portions. The cornbread tastes like grease. The fried chicken pieces were small and dry. Not sure i’ll go back.

Southern Kitchen serves excellent food such as whiting fish, chicken livers, fried okra, corn bread, baked chicken , sweet potato fries, candied yams, Gingerale, strawberry lemonade… samples of food that we ordered. Our waitress was very respectful, patient, professional. I will be returning again bec the food is scrumptious ! We had a good time!! Marilyn Harris

Love the new location! The restaurant is beautiful. I was a little disappointed that they no longer serve cornbread complimentary. Also, I thought it was a little high to pay $10 for one southern roll. Entrees were good

The food was simply delicious. Love the new location in Stony Point Fashion Mall. Plenty of room. Staff was extremely friendly and polite.
