South Block is a North-Carolina inspired BBQ hall and brewery on the edge of Mission, in Calgary. Upstairs you’ll find a large dining room, 20-seat bar, and a year-round indoor/outdoor beer garden. Downstairs hosts our stage, live music hall, and brewerey – where we brew our entire draft lineup from classic staples like our Pilsner, Lager, and IPAs, to our unique seasonal Peach Bourbon Ale and Mango Wheat Ale.

Behind the bar, we run a hand-crafted cocktail program and offer a whiskey list of over 200 varietals, including American, Canadian, Irish, Scottish, and Japanese whiskeys.

However, the biggest draw has to be our slow-smoked barbecue menu. Inspired by the flavours of North Carolina, our team arrives early every morning to smoke our famous brisket, pulled pork, ribs, and more for up to 14 hours.

    The drinks and food are excellent, but the live music is too loud.

    Biggest drawback to the evening was the $75 parking ticket. Paid $10 to park from 6:00 pm to 8:30pm. Got a ticket timed at 8:36pm for $75 because I was out of time. Food, beer, and service were fine. I won’t go back until they loosen up the parking rules.

    Our young female server with glasses on Saturday night was very nice and accommodating. Baked beans are fantastic. Wish we had the recipe. Pasta salad not favourite. Smoked turkey is always great. Fun to have live band to listen to.

    The food we ordered was excellent - burnt ends, watermelon salad, and the chicken waffle were all very tasty. The band playing, called Paradise Lanes, was very good as well.

    We went to south block on a Saturday night and there was live music- the band was great and they played for 2 hours! Food was really good- especially the Brisket Mac and Cheese, the stuffed peppers and the blueberry burnt ends. Quite expensive so would recommend going with a large group and sharing everything. Would definitely go back to watch live music, however if you are noise sensitive it can be very loud.

    Booked weeks in advance & got sat at a wood picnic table, had to ask to be moved to a table with proper chairs, then we were comfortable and the lighting was much better, and we were not so close to the band as it is overly loud and hard to have a conversation. Server was excellent. Food was great! Beer was good & fairly priced BUT the wine was ridiculously priced at $17/glass. Overall had a great evening and will go back.

    Celebrated my birthday here with friends & had a fantastic time! Great service, food, drinks & environment. Made for a great night. Pasta salad & potato salad 10/10 , staff went above & beyond to create lovely night & memories for us
