South Block is a North-Carolina inspired BBQ hall and brewery on the edge of Mission, in Calgary. Upstairs you’ll find a large dining room, 20-seat bar, and a year-round indoor/outdoor beer garden. Downstairs hosts our stage, live music hall, and brewerey – where we brew our entire draft lineup from classic staples like our Pilsner, Lager, and IPAs, to our unique seasonal Peach Bourbon Ale and Mango Wheat Ale.

Behind the bar, we run a hand-crafted cocktail program and offer a whiskey list of over 200 varietals, including American, Canadian, Irish, Scottish, and Japanese whiskeys.

However, the biggest draw has to be our slow-smoked barbecue menu. Inspired by the flavours of North Carolina, our team arrives early every morning to smoke our famous brisket, pulled pork, ribs, and more for up to 14 hours.

The food was excellent! They had a live band and they were great, however it was a bit loud to talk to others at the table. There was no air conditioning as it was quite an open venue. The restaurant decor was casual and very nice and the food was excellent so we will definately go back.

Great find, so glad we stopped in for supper. Some of the best BBQ'd brisket I've ever had, all my friend had a great food experience as well. Sandwiches are delicious, chicken wings, best they ever had. Great atmosphere and patio is awesome! Will 100% be back! (Knowledgeable servers as well)!

Band that was playing ( Paradise Lanes) was awesome. Have them back for sure!

The food was so so so good! Delish BBQ and the portions were HUGE! Definitely a great vibe during Stampede.

Great Stampede Vibe! We have enjoyed South Block for the past 2 years as a Stampede ‘launching point’ on the way to the grounds. Very accommodating staff as we kept changing the reservation because more people jumped on board. No issues handling 14. Food was fast, tasty and plentiful. Beers were cold, drinks good and service nonstop. Very good value and a tasty sendoff to the Chuckwagon races!

We chose this restaurant to celebrate a family birthday and are happy we did. We ate our meal family style so we all got to sample a little of everything. It was all delicious and a fantastic value. Definitely will be back!

Not dragging the food so much as keeping things moist is a challenge here. Brisket was dry for a place built on Southern BBQ? Dry brisket is kinda poor representation. Just saying. Other locations have been better quality. Not sure why that is. Other than that? It was a good time.
