Launched by acclaimed musician and broadcaster YolanDa Brown OBE DL with music manager and creative entrepreneur Adetokunbo “T” Oyelola, Soul Mama is not just a restaurant but a celebration of music and food. Through a record-breaking crowdfunding campaign, Soul Mama became a Guinness World Record Holder as the largest Kickstarter-funded restaurant globally.

Under the inspired direction of Executive Chef Aleandro Brown, Soul Mama’s menu celebrates a rich fusion of flavours that transports diners on a culinary journey. The music aspect of the evening was fantastic. However the food was a different matter. I observed the chef picking up the wings with his hands. The food was warm not hot. The plantain was uneatable. The rice had a strange taste like it was going off. I think that your servers need to be trained in how to serve food . Holding the rice bowl and having you hand over it is unacceptable. Leaning over guest is unacceptable. There is a correct way to serve food. Have a small trolly would help. Also seating large groups bearing to the serving area would make like easier for the servers. And finally ensuring that all charges are made clear on your marketing material. But overall the music was fantastic and made up for our dining experience.

We were so looking forward to dining at soul mamma venue on valentines night but were taken to a room upstairs for our meal instead of the live music area. I found the man on the door quite rude when I queried this as it was not clear on their website that you had to buy a ticket for the live music! Many others had made the same mistake! The room upstairs couldn’t cope with the diners and delivered starters that were cold twice, we didn’t have cutlery to eat the starters and ended up leaving as the service etc was awful!

Access to the live music required a separate ticket, and while we made efforts to communicate this, we recognise that it wasn’t as clear as it should have been. We’ll be reviewing how we improve this going forward. We also apologise for the service issues in the upstairs dining area, including delays, cold food, and missing cutlery. This is not the standard we strive for, and we’re addressing it with our team. Me and my partner booked this music venue/ restaurant for Valentine’s Day. We were made to sit upstairs, away from the live singers and band which was very dissatisfying. We were seated at 8pm and received our mains at 9:30pm, which wasn’t even the complete main meal as we didn’t get our salad or rice/ peas. The lighting kept coming off and on, we were asked several times what our order was when we had already informed them. The value for money was poor. We paid £57 per person for a meal that was incomplete, we wasn’t catered to properly. We were promised Prosecco and didn’t receive this. We also had to wait about an hour for drinks. The waiters/ waitresses were stressed and rushed off of their feet which clearly had an impact on service. Other couples were also disappointed and complained about how the night was organised. Would not be coming back here. It dampened our valentines evening unfortunately.
