Sonora Prime used to be our go-to steakhouse in Puerto Vallarta—a great place for celebrations and special occasions It seems to have lost its luster and both the service and the food quality and size were diminished. We ordered 2 ribeyes and one veg entree for our party of 5, along with several appetizers and sides The avocado with pistachios and the caprese and the carnitas appetizers were terrific. Well sized and shareable. Very tasty, the ribeyes arrived simultaneously but one was at least 1/2” thicker than the other and the thinner one was fatty, gristly and did not resemble a ribeye cut. The sides, asparagus, was good but 12 stems, not exactly family size, mashed potatoes were flavorful and perfectly cooked, but again, the serving size was about 8 oz, Wine list was small, no house wine available . Cocktails were well made. We will probably give this place one more try before we write it off

Let me start by saying we have been here several times in the past and had wonderful experiences. This past time was a complete train wreck. First of all, they had no air conditioning. This isn’t a snobby comment! They were in process of replacing the units. The new units were literally sitting in the back of the restaurant! As a result the restaurant was uncontrollably hot and stuffy. To the point it was hard to breathe. They actually call you to confirm the reservation, how hard is it to mention that they are having technical difficulties? Next came the food. Our first round of appetizers were ok. We had the artichoke and the cheese. The artichoke was good. The cheese was a bowl of congealed salty cheese. We next ordered a Cesar salad. It certainly was not the same as in the past. This was a phoned in supermarket Cesar. Shameful for something Mexico is famous for. The part I forgot to mention is it took 45 minutes to receive it. By this point we were dripping in sweat and asked the manager what they could do. He moved us to a table closer to the door where a ceiling fan was running. Finally we ordered our entrees and sides. The sides came out cold and honestly were tiny. The steaks were another story. We ordered the aged cowboy ribeye and a New York. The New York had more fat than the ribeye which also was thick with fat. (Not nearly the beautiful steak they presented raw before we ordered). The manager came over to see why we didn’t eat it. We showed him the amount of fat and explained how inedible it was. After 3 hours there, the manager offered us a free dessert as if that would have made up for the horrendous experience we already had. We pilot declined. Then were left sitting there and had to flag him down to get the bill. Sonora Prime, you let us down. As a result, we will vote with our dollar and not return.

We came to Sonoras a few years back and were blown away with everything . This time we were not impressed . It was my 40th b day and we were so excited . The waiter was not attentive , there was no AC so it was unbearable with the hot plates they bring . The food was not nearly as good as it was before .

Honestly … the best of experience . One of my favorite offerings is the Roasted artichokes. The Smokey flavor is in complete balance with natural taste . Try it !! I ordered the small center loin cut steak with was as easy as butter to carve . My request was for medium rare and it arrived with perfect heat and color . This is truly an art of an elite restaurant .
