    First the positives. This restaurant has a magnificent fitout. It's like walking into a high end Manhattan eatery. The ambiance is fantastic. It was busy and vibrant and the service was friendly and prompt. Unfortunately the food was very disappointing. The exception was the prawn wantons which had wonderful flavours. Everything else was bland. The other dumplings were fine, but completely unmemorable. The Peking duck was not bad but miles behind the standard of more established Chinese restaurants like Mr Wong. The Mongolian lamb was fine but vanilla. We had the 'chocolate Pavlova' for desert. It was terrible. In summary, this place has great potential and I would consider going back. It's just that the food doesn't taste Asian and the chef lacks imagination.

    Service outstanding! Food- under average, more street style than Alacarte, and cold when it finally arrived. Nothing came on time, more like a tapas experience instead of Alacarte (single dishes brought to the table). Very disappointing; prefer Margaret.

    To begin with, I feel I must state that I love Neil Perry's restaurant, Margaret; faultless food and service. I was so looking forward to dining at Songbird with my wife and a couple of friends, however in retrospect we should've waited until all of its teething problems were sorted. Our experience was, to say the least, underwhelming. Aside from the extravagant setting and beautiful chopsticks, the food was your standard Chinese, much like what you'd find in an average Chinatown restaurant. There was no wow factor to the dishes. You know something isn't quite right when we encouraged each other to finish the mains. I'm sure the ingredients are the best available, especially when the menu provides the names of the certain suppliers, though Bruce Collis wouldn't be happy with his southern calamari being presented as rubbery and tough. Ben's coral trout and Sun Farm's chicken were both bland. The roast pork was tough, too; a tussle to eat with chopsticks. The consensus among our group was that Songbird is Double Bay's version of a traditional Chinese restaurant. Maybe it's just early days and Songbird will evolve into something special, like Margaret.

    we travelled from the southern highlands for a weekend away and hear about song bird and it was amazing. all the staff we spoke to were amazing. the food was next level. it was a belated birthday dinner and real first date night for my partner and myself. it was beautiful. thank you

    We chose Songbird for my partner’s birthday celebration with friends. The banquet was excellent, the quality and quantity of the selection was well liked. The only let down for some of us was the dessert, the granita and would have preferred one of the deserts on the main menu. We loved the wine selected from the sommelier’s choices list. The service was a little hit and miss. We had to ask for water to be refilled and we were then asked what water we were drinking. It took a long time for our mains to be cleared and had to ask twice for the bill, which left us feeling a little forgotten about. The interior design is stunning but there could be more bathrooms. Despite the service needing some refinement we had a great experience.

    We (two) were excited to try this new Neil Perry Cantonese fine diner so took on the banquet. Overall it was delicious, helped on by a recommended off-dry German Riesling. The chicken salad, pickles, prawn wontons, Peking duck pancakes and beef were our pick. The beef and pork belly dishes a little too similar, the pork belly a bit overdone. Trout dish too subtle, for us s’overwhelmed by the delicious green veges in sesame oil. The watermelon granita with cream cheese was a refreshing revelation for dessert. The fit out is classic Perry, elegant, classy, warm but not intimidating. Service friendly but a bit haphazard, no doubt will improve with time. The one thing that would have made for a better experience is a larger table for two (and not so close to other diners) as it was a puzzle challenge to fit the plates on the table! Despite this we are looking forward to returning to try some more of the menu and soak up the great Saturday night ambience.

    We absolutely loved the food, the service and the ambience. We ordered the Pepper beef pancake and the Char Siu Pork for appetizers and the Stir Fry Copper Tree Beef Filet and the Stir Fried Shangai noodles with roast duck wombok for mains and it was plenty of food for the two of us. The desserts were another level. The Chocolate pavlova and the Vanilla soft serve with chocolate magic were absolute amazing and we tried the watermelon granita which was a great surprise, very refreshing. Great service with knowledgeable staff. I highly recommend it.
