Our dream began in late 2014, long before we became the "Best Mexican Restaurant in San Juan Capistrano". It began inside a 17- foot food truck with the burning desire to change the way guests perceived food truck cuisine to be we have always believed that Mexican food should be MORE! More complex, modern, enjoyable and healthier for our bodies.

I have heard so many good things about Sol Agave so we decided to try it. We were ignored by 2-3 people as they walked past the reception desk but we had a reservation so I wasn't too worried. We were seated immediately and our waiter Paul was there a minute after. My napkin had a stain on it but it had appeared to have been washed so I didn't bother saying anything. Paul brought our drinks and noticed mine had lipstick on the glass before he set it down, so maybe the napkin wasn't washed after all. We ordered the guacamole tester for an appetizer. One was a lobster, traditional, and carne. The lobster guac was truly awful, it was so fishy I only had it once. The traditional was way too salty. The carne was good, but the pulled pork was hard to scoop onto a chip since it was cold. Paul was great to us. Our drinks were never more than half empty and he was always checking in to see how we were doing. I ordered the Mar Y Tierra and the food I received was so disappointing for being a $38 plate. It had clearly been sitting out because it was lukewarm. The tortillas were thick and soggy and the sauce was overly salted. There were two enchiladas and I ate 80% of one of them. I told Paul this and he offered to make me another plate but we had an event to get to and didn't have time to wait so he offered a free dessert. The free butter cake was brought to us and the cinnamon and other spices were way too overpowering so I scraped them off the ice cream. The parts of the cake that were baked through tasted good but the center was undercooked. We also never had the manager (or whoever it was walking around in a white shirt asking how things were going) stop at our table. He stopped at every table in our row but never once at ours. The only thing that we didn't have in common was I'm not a wealthy-looking 50-something couple or family. Even after I said my food was cold, he never stopped. That was our first and last time going to Sol Agave.

Excelent friendly service and very nice ambiance. The food was more than perfect. Best place to eat Mexican food.

This was our first time going to the SLC Sol Agave. The location and building are both fantastic! We had a watermelon/basil margarita and a cucumber/cilantro margarita, which were both really good! The chips and salsa won our approval, which is a make or break thing with Mexican food restaraunts. The entrees were also great! We will be going back to try some other menu items. Great dinner!

Chips, salsa and guacamole were great, as were the drinks. For the main course the fish tacos were good, the steak fajita passable but greasy with little flavor. However, the tacos with portobello mushrooms and New York steak was probably the worst dish I have ever been served in a restaurant. First, the dish was served sizzling on a cast iron skillet. It continued to sizzle after being served and hot fat splashed onto my arms and splattered onto my pants. The onions were plentiful but almost raw, the mushrooms were few, the steak tough and all was puddled in a huge excess of oil. The packages of corn tortillas broke into three pieces upon opening (even after asking for another packet). Finally, as the iron skillet was so hot the cheese was a burnt mess on the bottom. The dish was not seasoned at all. It was a greasy inedible mess. The server noticed that I was not eating it and I muttered that it was impossible to make into tacos. I took the steak home for my dog in order to rescue something from the meal. Perhaps it was just a bad menu choice but I am a good cook and I would never serve my guests anything this poorly prepared

I was in town for work and decided to go to dinner away from the hotel. The food was amazing. I did eat alone and it felt weird for this environment, but I didn't want to sit at the bar. the server was fantastic & the butter cake ended the night with the perfect touch of YUM!! I have no complaints.

All and all we had a pleasant experience. The house margarita and esquites were delicious! I ordered the camarones al gusto ala diabla which was delicious as well however my partner ordred the carnitas and the meat was very fatty and he had to cut a lot of that fat off the meat. He said he would go back and not order the carnitas again. I'd be happy to go back and try some other menu options.

Food was incredible. Service was a little slow and they brought out my entree 10-15 min before my wife’s so by the time I ate it my food was cold.
