With over 20 years of experience in the kitchen, Nicholas McCann, now Executive Chef of Society Cafe, has always been passionate about food. Drawing inspiration from his family recipes, Nicholas quickly fell in love with the culinary world at a young age and began his career at The French Culinary Institute in NYC. Since then, he has worked with some of the city’s most acclaimed chefs and restaurants, including working alongside Chef Luis Bollo of Salinas before moving on to become an Executive Chef at TESSA, The Milling Room, and Corkbuzz.

At Society Cafe, Chef Nicholas flexes his creativity by bringing a fresh perspective to the restaurant’s ‘market-to-table’ concept. With a rotating seasonal menu reflective of the city’s local farmers and markets, guests can expect to experience Chef Nicholas’ unique culinary creations alongside its intimate & classic art deco inspired space.

We've decided to have brunch there every Sunday while we're in New York. It's a unique environment, quite special, and the food is great.

Yum yum in my tum tum! The ambience as the highlights as well as the live jazz in the foyer on the way in and out.

I went for the restaurant week menu. While the food was good, I was left a bit hungry as the pasta main dish was a smaller portion than I expected. Great decor and vibes, with equally great service. I came towards the end of the night and the waiter was very communicative about how much longer the kitchen would be open and let us take the unfinished bottle of wine to the lobby after the restaurant itself was closing for the night. Would return to try the main menu items.

We absolutely loved the comfort of our roomy booth in the corner and our server was lovely but the only thing I would recommend to your staff is to always have silverware on the table BEFORE the food comes. We had the tasty absolutely delicious prix-fix (highly recommend!) and after every course, the plates and silverware would be taken and the next course would always come before the silverware. We had to wait each time before eating — doesn’t make sense. The person who was at the reception and the gentleman who was getting water bottles out of their case at the reception were really kind and positive (as was our main server, too!). The silverware not being on time was the only problem and if it were on time at each course it would have been absolutely perfect! Definitely coming back to dine with you again.

We found this charming market-to-table intimate restaurant in the West Village. Their complimentary warm bread was so good! We started off with a wonderful peach, plum and tomato with stracciatella appetizer along with chickpea fries followed by a delicious chicken entree and truffle gnocchi dish. Service was excellent and will definitely return. Highly recommend.

Thank you very much for this review. We have to confess, the Stone Fruit seasonal appetizer is one of our favorites as well. Our bread service is something we like to think of as a bit of surprise since it is a popover instead of a more standard bread option. And of course, we are so pleased you enjoyed the Chicken, the Gnocchi and the service from our team. We hope you are able to join us again soon.

This is a hidden gem… located in the lower level of the Walker Hotel. Food is decent.. order what you love- don’t order something you’ve never had. I liked the octopus salad and the rice cakes. The marguerita pizza was a bit soggy and the chicken entree looked great but I didn’t try it.

Although this time we didn’t see as extensive a dinner menu as we have in the past, we will always return to Society Cafe - one of our neighborhood favorites. They were very accommodating when one member of our family wanted an item she had had in the past. Our server took good care of us - listening to our interests and guiding us in various choices. (I really like the scallops.) Carry on!

We do try and change the menu, especially seasonally if our Chef talks to folks at the market and there is something particularly good.
