SOCALO is a beachy, California canteen and Mexican pub from award-winning chef/owners Susan Feniger and Mary Sue Milliken. Located within the Gateway Hotel, SOCALO offers seasonal and organic SoCal Mexican fare with cocktails, Mexican wines and craft beers.

SOCALO has been named Eater's Superb Santa Monica Restaurants and Hottest Happy Hours, LA Times' 101 Best Restaurants, Best Tacos and Best Mexican Restaurants in LA by Time Out and Thrillist.

Open for indoor and outdoor dining, and counter service dining prior to 4pm (no reservations necessary nor taken). Takeout and delivery with plenty of vegan, vegetarian, and gluten-free options available.

For groups of 7 or more, please call 310.451.1655 to discuss accommodations, or visit socalo.com. We offer semi-private spaces, private banquet rooms, long communal tables, and two spacious outdoor patios.

Strong Words returns to the westside. Join us for our next pop up spoken word event on Saturday, November 16th at 7:30pm. Grab dinner and drinks before the show and then enjoy an intimate spoken word event with powerful back room storytelling. $10 per person for the Strong Words event at 7:30pm. All food and beverage will be sold separately. To make a reservation for dinner before the show, please add a note with the desired reservation time in the special request box and we will adjust accordingly.

These tacos are great. Very flavorful (I am Mexican so this is saying something). Service is incredible, drinks are great, and we were there for the Día de los Muertos event with mariachi. We had the best time!

The food is consistently wonderful at Socalo and my dining partner and I have been there many times. I ordered the Santa Monica Bowl with the fish of the day, which was salmon last night, and it was a bowl full of veggie deliciousness. My friend had the Vampiro Tacos as always and was not disappointed. Good guacamole, too!

We were celebrating a friends Birthday and there were 5 of us. Myself and my friends have enjoyed “The Two Hot Tamales” since Border Grills inception, Susan Feniger befriending one of my friends who’s a flight attendant and inviting him to the restaurant. When we arrived at SoCalo there was a group of other people waiting and no one was manning the host desk. Then a woman came out from the back (assuming the manager) and audibly said “ohhhh” assuming not only we were standing there for a while. We were seated promptly but service was not good… no water glasses were offered even though there are bottles of water on the table… when appetizers came no plates were offered and no one around to ask so we got our own off the sidebar. Finally one of my friends spoke up before I did and said that the service was poor and she took our order even though she wasn’t our waiter. The rest of the evening, as the place cleared out, the service improved but not to a level that would be expected of the chef owners. There is no doubt the creative and delicious food that Susan Feniger and Mary Sue Millikan produce for their restaurants… honestly never a disappointment… so that’s why this lack of attention to service was a surprise and dampened our experience at SoCalo.

Excellent casual dining. Well crafted high-end Mexican food at very fair prices. Been going to Millikin-Feininger restaurants for a long, long time and Socalo is one of the best. Highly recommended!

Great meal with excellent service. Taco Tuesday was a huge bargain. Shrimp tacos were fantastic.

Socalo is always terrific. Fresh, tasty food beautifully presented. Have the cauliflower appetizer. , the guac and chips and the tinga tacos for your first time. You won't be disappointed! I

We went for Happy Hour to celebrate a birthday. We really enjoyed ourselves, loved the menu - food and drinks - and was particularly impressed by the staff. The manager accomodated our table request on the side patio. Our waiter brought us pillows to use on the metal chairs. They answered our questions to our satisfaction about the 2% added automatically to the bill for the staff's benefit. The information on the different dishes and recommendations were excellent. We will definitely be going back!
