For the last 18 years, Joe Hennes and his wife Ellen have been building a family-oriented meeting place for friends to gather at Sloppy Joe's Saloon and Spoon in Hubertus. In December 2020, they purchased this property, and brought the philosophy of food, fun, and laughter from Washington County to Lake Country. They renamed the property Smoke on the Water to reflect the revamped menu which includes a large selection of home-smoked meat items. Open jams, live music, karaoke and fun events are already a regular part of the experience.

And after a decade of the lower level sitting vacant, they just launched "Below Deck," a brand new state of the art banquet facility and live music venue that accommodates about 250 people.

Great customer service along with great food! The view of the lake outside is pretty too. Check out the lounge downstairs!

We sat out on the patio it was gorgeous! We had the Friday fish fry with clam chowder, a definite repeat! It’s really nice they take reservations on OpenTable now!

Our reservation was for outdoor dining, it was raining and they accommodated us inside after a short wait. Excellent service, Lisa was super attentive, able to answer menu questions and fun. The food was delicious as usual and overall a great experience. It was a little loud. I had a rice bowl with good sized and portion of shrimp, perfect on the lighter side. The smoke chicken, brisket and pork all had great reviews and sides of bourbon glazed carrots (you gotta try), Brussel sprouts and fries made of zucchini or sweet potatoes were a hit.

Had smoked, shredded chicken. It was very flavorful and juicy. Dinner was a little busy. Servers never let it show. They were very friendly and attentive. Lake provides beautiful scenery.

Amazing experience!! From the host, bartenders and waiter! Everything was super attentive and top notch! It was our first time and enjoyed the fish fry. The best walleye and the fresh perch was so delicious! We can’t wait to return to have their traditional BBQ!

The menu has an assortment of smoked meats in platters and sandwiches. We had the smoked wings for an appetizer and they were top 5 wings I’ve had.

This was our first experience at Smoke on the Water and our only regret is that we didn’t try it sooner. The food was outstanding, our server was engaging and enhanced our experience. We’re looking forward to our visit. I would recommend placing a reservation as this place was hopping!
