For the last 18 years, Joe Hennes and his wife Ellen have been building a family-oriented meeting place for friends to gather at Sloppy Joe's Saloon and Spoon in Hubertus. In December 2020, they purchased this property, and brought the philosophy of food, fun, and laughter from Washington County to Lake Country. They renamed the property Smoke on the Water to reflect the revamped menu which includes a large selection of home-smoked meat items. Open jams, live music, karaoke and fun events are already a regular part of the experience.

And after a decade of the lower level sitting vacant, they just launched "Below Deck," a brand new state of the art banquet facility and live music venue that accommodates about 250 people.

Excellent food. Our waiter was fantastic pointing out the most popular items and ready to answer any questions we had. We will definitely be back!

The ribs are excellent but so is everything else. It is defiantly our go-to restaurant. Shout out to Deanne who is an excellent server.

Food was good, service was great, loved the location and atmosphere. Portions could have been a little larger and the bun could have been fresher. But overall had a great experience and lunch.

First time there. Wr had reservations for 5:15. We were asked if we wanted to sit inside or outside. We said we preferred inside, as it was windy. However, the noise level was unbearable due to ridiculously loud music that people trying to talk over . I asked the hostess if we could change to outside. She seemed annoyed but did so. Much better! The waitress Gavi was excellent, the food was too! We had smoked prime rib and brisket.

I made our reservation for the deck and trout I’d put 4 people but it went through as 2 people. They accommodated us with no fuss and as usual the service continued to be great

Food good not great. Brisket sandwich served as chunks rather than the sliced. Thought the upcharge for changing out the chips for beans was high. It was basically the same as ordering the side alone despite giving up the chips. Feel the waitress should have mentioned there was an extra charge as well as the amount. All in all the sandwich came to over $20

Best Friday night fish fry we’ve had in ages. Brisket was smoked perfectly too. Highly recommend.

The restaurant has a great view. Probably a great party atmosphere on a Friday evening in summer. When my wife and I entered the restaurant as the first two diners, the music was blaring. I asked them to turn it down, and they acted like I had violated a sacred space. Shortly thereafter, a party of ten fun loving women succeeded in getting the sound noise reduced. Apart from atmosphere, I wouldn't recommend the food. They don't offer anything that I would recognize as a barbecue sauce. They have something that I think is called "sira-cue". Here is some free advice for Smoke on the Water: don't try to sell any "sira-cue" in Tennessee or Alabama. Food was cooked OK. But if you have eaten good barbecue anywhere between Chicago, San Antonio and Tuscaloosa, you probably won't be highly impressed, If you want a loud party atmosphere, party on dudes!! If you want good barbecue, keep looking.
