Not the best experience on this trip to Smash Kitchen. We have had amazing Sunday brunches here, but this evening, the food was mediocre at best. Monday night special is the shared starters. We order 4 of these and a salad. The presentation was good, but it was luke warm when served, the calamari was greasy and limp not crispy, the truffle fries were over-cooked (almost burnt) only the fish taco was eatable. I should have said something to the server asked us about the food, but I was so hungry, and my friend (visiting from Vancouver) and I were so caught up in chatting, we just ignored the food in front of us. $70+ later, while walking back to the car, we agreed that we should have brought this to the attention of the server and/or manager! Oh well, lesson learnt, speak-up and say something if the food is not up to par!

Really wonderful birthday experience for the family. Excellent service and food portions are good. Just hard to hear conversation sometimes but otherwise a staple for celebrations.

Smash Kitchen exceeded my expectations! The atmosphere was welcoming, and the service was outstanding—attentive, friendly, and efficient. The staff made sure every detail was taken care of and checked in just the right amount to ensure I had everything I needed. The highlight of my meal was the plant-based burger—it was absolutely delicious! Perfectly seasoned, with a great texture and fresh toppings that brought it all together. It’s clear Smash Kitchen takes pride in catering to all kinds of diners, including those looking for vegan or vegetarian options. Overall, a fantastic experience. I’ll definitely be coming back for another plant burger and the excellent service!

Food was delicious and service was friendly and prompt. Food pricing is a bit high for a casual restaurant with a limited menu, and as compared to similar establishments, but do appreciate the level of service.

After only 50 minutes the waitress told us they have another reservation in 10 minutes and we needed to leave. I was planning on ordering more food. I had made a reservation and the dining time was 1.5hrs. I asked her what the limit was and she confirmed 90 min and shrugged saying they overbooked. Sad because I actually liked the food but her rushed service ruined the experience.

1) Only 1 vegan menu item - guac and chips? Why bother? I was told the burger and aioli are vegan but not the bun. As a vegan, a veggie burger seems to be the only choice and I’m tired of it. I asked if the kitchen could make a simple veggie pasta which they kindly agreed to. Sadly, the pasta came SWIMMING in sauce to the point it felt like a stew and the pasta so overcooked that the noodles were falling apart. In addition, the “vegetables” were giant pieces of cauliflower and broccoli. The lack of logic and creativity applied was so disappointing. Who would ever put giant al dente pieces of cauliflower or broccoli in pasta? In 2024, having one decent vegan entree option on a menu shouldn’t be unreasonable (an appetizer and dessert item would be outstanding so a vegan can enjoy an entire experience) 2) After finishing our meal, we lingered a bit to continue our conversations. At 7:15, a person on staff came around to tell us that they needed the table. In other words, get out. It was a Monday night, our reservation was 5:30. I found this exceptionally rude. As a Markham resident, we try and support local businesses and enjoyed coming to Smash in the early years. Sadly, things have changed and it is no longer an enjoyable place and I don’t see myself returning.
