While Slanted Door is opening this new location in Napa, it all began with an idea to open a Vietnamese crêpe stand or a noodle shop in the Tenderloin neighborhood. Charles Phan searched for a location but was told that there were already too many Vietnamese restaurants in the area. He moved the search to his own neighborhood: the Mission. He quickly found an available space on Valencia Street.

The Slanted Door was born in 1995 with the goal of elevating Vietnamese food to the next level—modern design, sustainable local ingredients, quality teas, and wine pairings. The Slanted Door was quickly recognized and became too small to accommodate the reservation requests. The growing restaurant moved to South of Market in 2002. It was there that the team integrated a craft cocktail program, which was one of the first restaurants in San Francisco to offer craft cocktail menus. The Slanted Door moved again to the San Francisco Ferry Building in 2004.

The patio is lovely at this time of year! Two of us enjoyed imperial rolls, chicken salad and shaking beef. Everything was delicious -as usual. Service is excellent! Thanks for a lovely lunch on a stressful day!

Great place to celebrate our anniversary. Service was exceptional, beautiful ambiance. Shaking beef and imperial rolls were amazing!

A beautiful space with exceptional service. However the meal was good but not as outstanding as we remember from a dozen years ago at the Ferry building. Perhaps because Vietnamese food isn’t so difficult to find these days? I’m not sure. My other comment is that it’s a difficult meal for 2 because the portions are large so you can really only order a few things between 2. It appeared much more enjoyable for the larger parties around us. Great location if you’re staying in downtown Napa.

Beautiful setting. Great food as at all slanted door locales. Excellent service. Very calm Peaceful setting in the outdoor patio. Patio is warm and cozy.

Yellowtail Crudo was yummy with a dash of salt bursted the flavor. Food was well prepared, a bit pricey but maybe because service was great all 3 visits. Corkage at $35 is not great; $25 is even less painless. Love the look of restaurant and ease of parking because it is not downtown but close to downtown! Try it, it is a calm, relaxing.

Excellent experience. Meghan and the entire staff were super attentive and accommodating. The food was some of the best we’ve had. The drinks were great. We were a party of 7 adults and a child and everyone loved the experience. The courtyard patio was beautiful and we highly recommend it. Thanks team Slanted door for making this special birthday celebration even more special

Food was good but not like the SF establishment which is excellent. I think they forgot about our last two items we ordered as there was a very long pause and we had to ask if they are still coming. Service was just ok. It was happy hour so not a lot of staff on during this time of the day we it’s understandable.
