Three generations of the Frank family found new inspiration in England’s growing gastropub movement.
In 2009, they refurbished, restyled and re-opened the traditional British pub at Five Crowns as Corona del Mar’s first and only English-style gastropub, SideDoor.

SideDoor is a separate operation within Five Crowns. Enter on Poppy Street under the big red key and find a comfortable and convivial atmosphere. Cozy up to one of the charming fireplaces. The focus at SideDoor is on seasonal small plates portioned for sharing, cheese and charcuterie prepared by a chef on duty at the new charcuterie station and a selection of world-class spirits. A wide range of wines and craft beers in a variety of sizes and pours are constantly updated with new offerings for the curious to explore. With its warm, relaxed atmosphere, SideDoor, the casual neighborhood gastropub, will have its guests returning again and again.

The food is consistently good as is the service. You can order off of the same menu at the side door as what you have in the main restaurant of five crowns so even if you want a more casual experience, you can still order their famous prime rib, and Yorkshire pudding. The only difficult part is making a reservation because it is such a popular place and there is limited seating

The service was fantastic! We had the cheese specialist come over and give us a sampling and explained the cheeses. We ordered cheese and salami based on her recommendations, fantastic. Our server Michelle was wonderful, great service and very personable.

Horrible service horrible food and horrible drinks. Even the people next to us walked out and left. I can’t believe this is a popular place. We will never be back.

We eat here probably weekly. I wish that they had said that the side door wasn't having their usual. One person in our party only eats chicken and it didn't have it because it slows down the kitchen during the Christmas season. Just a little communication would've made this a better experience because we could've made another choice.

I actually LOVE Side Door! Its a fun casual but classy vibe and the food and service is always great !

Disappointed. As others have said, Side Door is only offering the Five Crowns menu for the holidays. The bar food menu was much better for variety and fitting the mood of Side Door. Plus, I went to Five Crowns the week prior and already had their traditional dinner menu. Additionally, as festive as the decor was intended, they completely missed the mark by playing 80s music instead of any holiday tunes. The whole experience was different than all the prior years.
