Three generations of the Frank family found new inspiration in England’s growing gastropub movement.
In 2009, they refurbished, restyled and re-opened the traditional British pub at Five Crowns as Corona del Mar’s first and only English-style gastropub, SideDoor.

SideDoor is a separate operation within Five Crowns. Enter on Poppy Street under the big red key and find a comfortable and convivial atmosphere. Cozy up to one of the charming fireplaces. The focus at SideDoor is on seasonal small plates portioned for sharing, cheese and charcuterie prepared by a chef on duty at the new charcuterie station and a selection of world-class spirits. A wide range of wines and craft beers in a variety of sizes and pours are constantly updated with new offerings for the curious to explore. With its warm, relaxed atmosphere, SideDoor, the casual neighborhood gastropub, will have its guests returning again and again.

Had a great time. Had a reservation at 7:15 at Side Door and wasn’t seated until 8:00. But service was excellent and vibe is always fun! Will and Lester were awesome!!!

Trinity created a delicious charcuterie board for us to start with, followed by a signature Crown salad, pretzel, and lobster bisque. Our friend had the prime rib and I had the prime rib sandwich (California style) with chips. My wife had an interesting entree I never did figure out. Our server, Evan (?), was incredible, the staff were all very polite, including Anthony who kept our table looking great. Overall an incredible experience. We'll definitely be back again!

We told our server at the beginning of the meal about wanting the soufflé because we knew it took 25 minutes to prepare. We also told her we were seeing a show. She wasn’t able to time things properly so we didn’t get dessert. She also failed to take items we didn’t receive off our bill. She wasn’t attentive and did nothing to make up for it.

Prime rib was excellent, the sides such as the Truffle fries and the creamed corn and creamed spinach were fantastic. The charcuterie board is always a must, and the cocktails never disappoint! We will be back soon!

We love Side Foor but last night was not up to par...they changed the burger!! It was a fan favorite and the new burger was definitely disappointing. On top of the fact that it was not nearly as flavorful it came out basically raw...there was a "trainee" in charge of cooking burgers...and out entrees came out while we were still eating our soup. Clearly the kitchen was having some troubles. We strongly suggest bringing back the side Door burger ...we love Side Door!!!!
